Palilula (Serbian Cyrillic: Палилула, ) is a municipality of the city of Belgrade. It has the largest area of all municipalities of Belgrade. The core of Palilula is close to the center of the city, but the municipality also includes sparsely populated land left of the Danube. Neighborhood Location Palilula is located east of Terazije in downtown Belgrade. Like most of Belgrade's neighborhoods it has no firm boundaries and is roughly bordered by the '' Ruzveltova street'' and the municipality and neighborhood of Zvezdara on the east, the neighborhood of Hadžipopovac in its own municipality on the north, the neighborhood and municipality of Stari Grad and Jevremovac on the northwest (Jevremovac actually belongs to the neighborhood of Palilula, but administratively is part of Stari Grad), and the Tašmajdan and ''Bulevar kralja Aleksandra'' on the south, bordering the municipality of Vračar. Palilula ( sr-cyrl, Палилула, ) is one of five Municipalities and cities of Serbia, city municipalities which constitute the city of Niš. It has a population of 73,801 inhabitants. It was formed on 6 June 2002. Geography The municipality borders Crveni Krst, Niš, Crveni Krst and Medijana municipalities in the north, Niška Banja municipality in the east, Gadžin Han and Doljevac municipalities in the south, and Merošina municipality in the south-west. Demographics According to the 2011 census, the municipality had a population of 73,801 inhabitants, with 54,597 in the eponymous settlement. Palilula (Serbian Cyrillic: Палилула, ) is a neighborhood of the city of Niš, Serbia. It is located in Niš municipality of Palilula. Location Palilula is located in the south-central part of Niš. It is partly flat and partly on hill bordered on the west by the neighborhood of Staro Groblje, on the south by neighborhood of Kovanluk, on the east by neighborhood of Apelovac, and on the north by neighborhoods of Marger. History Palilula is one of the older neighborhoods of Niš. It was developed partly before and partly after 1878. Part of it was developed just after the construction of the railroad. During the Ottoman Empire the cities had been built very often by wooden beams, and there was a fire hazard. Therefore, during the Ottoman Empire, people were only allowed to smoke pipes out of the city walls. "Palilula" at that time was on the periphery, out of the city walls.
