Palilula, Niš
Palilula ( sr-cyrl, Палилула, ) is one of five Municipalities and cities of Serbia, city municipalities which constitute the city of Niš. It has a population of 73,801 inhabitants. It was formed on 6 June 2002. Geography The municipality borders Crveni Krst, Niš, Crveni Krst and Medijana municipalities in the north, Niška Banja municipality in the east, Gadžin Han and Doljevac municipalities in the south, and Merošina municipality in the south-west. Demographics According to the 2011 census, the municipality had a population of 73,801 inhabitants, with 54,597 in the eponymous settlement. Settlements The municipality consists of 16 settlements, all of which are classified as rural, except for Palilula, which is a part of a larger urban settlement of Niš. The municipalities and cities ( sr, општине и градови, opštine i gradovi) are the second level administrative subdivisions of Serbia. The country is divided into 145 municipalities ( sr-Latn, opštine, singular: ; 38 in Southern and Eastern Serbia, 42 in Šumadija and Western Serbia, 37 in Vojvodina and 28 in Kosovo and Metohija) and 29 cities (Serbian Latin: , singular: ; 9 in Southern and Eastern Serbia, 10 in Šumadija and Western Serbia, 8 in Vojvodina and one in Kosovo and Metohija), forming the basic level of local government. Gadžin Han ( sr-cyr, Гаџин Хан) is a village and municipality located in the Nišava District of the southern Serbia. According to 2011 census, the municipality has 8,389 inhabitants, from which 1,223 live in Gadžin Han itself. Deveti Maj (until the beginning of the 1990s, ''Novo Selo'') is a populated place in the city municipality of Palilula in the area of the city of Niš, in the Nišava District. It is located on the alluvial terrace of South Morava and Nišava, about 6 km west of the center of Niš. According to the 2002 census, there were 4,305 inhabitants (according to the 1991 census, there were 3,689 inhabitants). According to the 2011 census, Deveti Maj has 4,795 inhabitants. History Prehistoric findings (Neolithic) at the site called Bubanj indicate a very old population. No mention of Novi Selo is found in Turkish sources of the older period, which is why it can be assumed that it is of a younger origin, which is indicated by its name. In the Turkish census from 1498, however, the village of Donji Bubanj is mentioned with 41 houses and 5 mills, which then mysteriously disappeared (probably at the end of the 17th or in the first half of the 18th century). Bubanj
Bubanj ( sr-Cyrl, Бубањ; or as it is often called ''Bubanj Selo'' (), because the city district of the city of Niš called ''Bubanj'') is a village in the municipality of Palilula, City of Niš, Serbia. According to the 2002 census its population was 516 inhabitants (census 1991st was 441 inhabitants). It is famous for its World War II Bubanj Memorial Park, Historic Landmark of Exceptional Importance. History Ceramics of Černa Voda III-culture dating to the Early and Middle Bronze Age have been found in Bubanj. 10,000 people from Niš and south Serbia were shot during World War II in Bubanj. In the memory of the dead a monument, in the shape of three monumental clenched fists, was memorialized in 1963. It is a work of sculptor Ivan Sabolić and symbolizes the resistance of the people during the World War II.
