Pakistan Federal Union Of Journalists
The Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) is a trade union federation of journalists in Pakistan. PFUJ is affiliated with the International Federation of Journalists. History The constitution of the PFUJ was first adopted in Karachi in April 1950 at the Pakistan Working Journalists Convention, in a meeting opened by Muhammad Zafarullah Khan. The last affiliate union adopted the constitution on August 2, thus marking the formal beginning of the union. Muhammad Abdul Shakoor became the first president and Israr Ahmad (journalist) its first secretary general. In Feb 2014, a merger of PFUJ and All Pakistan Newspaper Employees Confederation (APNEC) was announced to consolidate and strengthen the two journalism organisations. International Federation Of Journalists
The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) is the largest global union federation of journalists' trade unions in the world. It represents more than 600,000 media workers from 187 organisations in 146 countries. The IFJ is an associate member of UNESCO and has represented journalists at the United Nations since 1953 (UN/ILO). It works with the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) and the Trade Union Advisory Committee to the OECD. The IFJ President is the Moroccan journalist and trade unionist Younes Mjahed. Lahore Press Club
The Lahore Press Club ( ur, لاہور پریس کلب) is an association of primarily news journalists, and also includes academics, business people and members of the public service sector in Lahore, Pakistan. It is the biggest press club in the country, with a membership of 3250, and is well known for its gatherings with invited speakers from public life. Veteran journalist Raja Aurangzeb played a major role in convincing Punjab former chief minister late Ghulam Haider Wyne to allot land for the Lahore Press Club at Shimla Pahari. Mr Arshad Ansari is the only journalist in Pakistan who got elected 11 times as the president of Lahore press club and has done remarkable work for the journalist community in Pakistan. Trade Unions In Pakistan
Trade unions in Pakistan are regulated under provincial industrial relations acts. Under the Constitution of Pakistan, labour is considered a shared responsibility of the federal and provincial governments. The latest Industrial Relation Act was promulgated on 12 March 2012 by President of Pakistan. National Industrial Relations Commission (NIRC) was established under Labour Policy, 1972 as a quasi-judicial authority to promote genuine trade unionism, setting up industry-wise federations of unions and at the national levels. According to NIRC, in 2016 there were 1,390 trade unions with registered 1.4 million members. There are 16 registered federations and the ratio of total union members to total employment is 2.2%. It includes the Jang Group of Newspapers, Dawn Group of Newspapers, and Nawa-i-Waqt Group of Newspapers. History The Pakistan Newspapers Society was established in 1950. Peshawar Press Club
The Peshawar Press Club (PPC) (Urdu: ) is an organisation of journalists and professionals working in media in Peshawar, Pakistan. The press club was founded in 1964 after the need for journalists to sit and organise press conferences was raised. Currently, the PPC has a membership of 300 working journalists affiliated with over 35 media outlets from both print media, print and electronic media, making it the third-largest in the country. The press club is led by a five-member cabinet consisting of a President, Vice-President, General Secretary, Joint Secretary and Treasurer; these positions are currently occupied by Shamim Shahid, Bakhtzada Yousufzai, Muhammad Ali Khan, Aneela Shaheen and Shahabud Din respectively. Minhaj Barna (born Minhaj Muhamad Khan Afridi; ur, ; 1923 – 15 January 2011) was a Pakistani veteran journalist and a Trade union, trade union leader. Barna was Minhaj Muhammad Khan's poetic name, also called ''takhallus'' in Urdu language. He was best known for his inspiring leadership and unrelenting struggle for press freedom during the rules of military dictatorships in Pakistan.
