Dear Eloise (band)
Dear Eloise () is a Chinese rock band composed of vocalist/producer Yang Haisong (杨海崧) and Sun Xia (孙霞). Formed in Beijing in 2008, the pair are known for their lo-fi DIY recordings that combine elements of shoegaze, indie pop, noise rock and experimental music. In addition to playing all of the instruments themselves, the husband-wife duo record and edit all of the band's music in their home studio. While they do not perform live and have released their recordings inconspicuously through the Beijing-based vinyl label Genjing Records and CD label Maybe Mars, the duo has managed to gain a loyal following in both the Chinese independent music scene and with critics abroad. Their seventh effort, ''Vanishing Winter'', was released on April 6, 2013 on Genjing Records. Post-punk
Post-punk (originally called new musick) is a broad genre of punk music that emerged in the late 1970s as musicians departed from punk's traditional elements and raw simplicity, instead adopting a variety of avant-garde sensibilities and non-rock influences. Inspired by punk's energy and DIY ethic but determined to break from rock cliches, artists experimented with styles like funk, electronic music, jazz, and dance music; the production techniques of dub and disco; and ideas from art and politics, including critical theory, modernist art, cinema and literature. Indie Rock
Indie rock is a Music subgenre, subgenre of rock music that originated in the United States, United Kingdom and New Zealand from the 1970s to the 1980s. Originally used to describe independent record labels, the term became associated with the music they produced and was initially used interchangeably with alternative rock or "Pop rock, guitar pop rock". One of the primary scenes of the movement was Dunedin, where Dunedin sound, a cultural scene based around a convergence of noise pop and jangle became popular among the city's University of Otago, large student population. Modern Sky
The Modern Sky Festival (Chinese language, Chinese: wikt:摩登天空音乐节, 摩登天空音乐节; pinyin: Módēng Tiānkōng Yīnyuè Jié) is an outdoor rock music festival in Beijing, China, organized by the Modern Sky record label. The first festival was held October 2–4, 2007 at Haidian Park. It featured four stages of music and over 120 bands, including the headliners, the American band Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Chinese bands included New Pants, Rebuilding The Rights Of Statues, P.K. 14, Queen Sea Big Shark, Joyside, Carsick Cars, and Snapline. In the 2009 festival, all foreign bands were dropped from performing due to "unforeseen circumstances". Only local Chinese bands performed. Genjing Records
Genjing Records (simplified Chinese: 根茎唱片; traditional Chinese: 根莖唱片) is a vinyl-only independent record label in Beijing, China focused on contributing recordings of Chinese musicians into global scene and vinyl record culture. Background Since its inception in March 2011, Genjing Records has issued dozens of 7-inch singles, 10-inch EPs, and LPs from bands such as AM444, Demerit, Dear Eloise, Duck Fight Goose, the Fever Machine, Gum Bleed, Round Eye, Snapline, Wang Wen (罔聞) and Fanzui Xiangfa. At its inception in 2011, the label was only conceived as a platform through which founder Nevin Domer's local Beijing hardcore band Fanzui Xiangfa (犯罪想法) could release and distribute their own recordings on vinyl records during a European tour with the German hardcore band SS20 .
