Púnica Case
Púnica case ( es, Operación Punica) is the name given to the police operation carried out by the Central Operational Unit (UCO) of the Guardia Civil, at the request of the judge of the Spanish National Court, Eloy Velasco. On 27 October 2014, 51 politicians, councillors, civil servants and businessmen were arrested by the Guardia Civil for allegedly being involved in a corruption scheme that awarded public services worth 250 million euros over two years. In return, illegal commissions were allegedly charged - 2-3% of the volume of the contract which were subsequently laundered through a corporate scheme. Francisco Granados, former number two of the PP in the Community of Madrid behind Esperanza Aguirre, was one of the main people involved, in addition to indirectly giving his name to the operation. Civil Guard (Spain)
The Civil Guard ( es, Guardia Civil, link=no; ) is the oldest law enforcement agency in Spain and is one of two national police forces. As a national gendarmerie force, it is military in nature and is responsible for civil policing under the authority of both the Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of Defence. The role of the Ministry of Defence is limited except in times of war when the Ministry has exclusive authority. The corps is colloquially known as the ' (reputable). The Audiencia Nacional (; en, National Court) is a centralised court in Spain with jurisdiction over all of the Spanish territory. Eloy Velasco
Eloy Velasco (born 2 January 1963 in Bilbao, Biscay, Spain) is a Spanish High Court Judge, known for being responsible to determine whether or not six former Bush officials (see Bush Six) should face criminal charges in Spain. He is also known for having accepted the judicial demand against the former Salvadoran president Alfredo Cristiani and other 14 Salvadoran members of the military, for the 1989 murders of Jesuits in El Salvador. Francisco José Granados Lerena (Valdemoro, 23 January 1964) is a Spanish politician. Involved in the infamous "Púnica" corruption case (actually named after him in a pun) he was held in preventive detention from October 2014 to June 2017. A prominent figure of the People's Party of the Community of Madrid in his capacity as Esperanza Aguirre's lieutenant in the regional branch of the People's Party (Spain), PP, he has served as Mayor of Valdemoro (1999–2003), Minister in the Government of the Community of Madrid, regional government of the Community of Madrid as well as a member of the Assembly of Madrid, regional legislature. Esperanza Aguirre y Gil de Biedma (; born 3 January 1952) is a Spanish politician. María Cristina Cifuentes Cuencas (born 1 July 1964) is a former Spanish politician from the People's Party. She was the President of the Community of Madrid from 24 June 2015 to her 25 April 2018 resignation.
