''Përpjekja shqiptare'' ( en, The Albanian Endeavour), published by Branko Merxhani, and administered by Petro Marko was a literary magazine, published in Tirana, Albania from 1936 to 1939. The magazine was published monthly is said to have had a great influence on the modernization of the cultural life of Albania at that time. The magazine offered to the contemporary readers modern Albanian literature in prose and poetry, as well as translations from modern foreign authors. In addition it included essays on philosophy, psychoanalysis, sociology, linguistics, archeology, and history. It propagated a spiritual and cultural rebirth, called ''Neo-Albanianism'' ( sq, Neo-shqiptarisma), with a view on Western Europe. Branko Merxhani
Aleksandër Merxhani mostly known as Branko Merxhani (1894–1981) was an Albanian intellectual, sociologist, writer, journalist and literary critic. He was one of the most important cultural figures of the pre-World War II in Albania, publisher of ''Përpjekja shqiptare''. During the '30s he developed an ideological program named ''Neo-Albanianism'' ( sq, Neo-shqiptarisma), which he developed being heavily influenced by Turkish sociologist Ziya Gökalp. Life Originating from Sopik of Pogon kaza, his father was a judge in Nish, where he married with a local and Branko was born there. It is thought that his mother or his governess was German. After the Ottoman authorities relocated his father, he followed the German lyceum in Bursa, studied philosophy in the Ottoman Empire and followed his studies in Austria. Petro Marko
Petro Marko (November 25, 1913 – December 27, 1991) was an Albanian writer. His best-known novel is titled '' Hasta La Vista'' and recounts his experiences as a volunteer of the Republican forces during the Spanish Civil War. Petro Marko is widely regarded as one of the founding fathers of modern Albanian prose. Life Petro Marko was born in Dhërmi, southern Albania in 1913. He started writing at the age of twenty and his first works were published in journals of the time with support from Ernest Koliqi his mentor. His articles would be published in periodicals as ''Lirija'', ''Shqipëria e Re'', ''Bota e Re'', and ''Koha e Re'' magazine since he was 20. Tirana
Tirana ( , ; aln, Tirona) is the capital and largest city of Albania.
