Péniche Opéra
La Péniche Opéra is a small French opera company which performs on a barge. When performing in Paris, the barge is moored opposite of No.46, quai de Loire, in the 19th district of Paris. It was founded by director Mireille Larroche, Ivan Matiakh, Béatrice Cramoix and Pierre Danais in 1982, and became recognised, and subsidised as a ''Compagnie Lyrique Nationale'' in 1998. The "barge opera" was in residence at the Paris Opéra Comique ''Opéra comique'' (; plural: ''opéras comiques'') is a genre of French opera that contains spoken dialogue and arias. It emerged from the popular ''opéras comiques en vaudevilles'' of the Théâtre de la foire, Fair Theatres of St Germain and S ... from 1998 to 2007 but has travelled by canal to be associated artist of the Opéra de Toulon from 2003 to 2007. Barge
A barge is typically a flat-bottomed boat, flat-bottomed vessel which does not have its own means of mechanical propulsion. Original use was on inland waterways, while modern use is on both inland and ocean, marine water environments. The first modern barges were pulled by tugs, but on inland waterways, most are pushed by Pusher (boat), pusher boats, or other vessels. Opéra De Toulon
The Toulon Opera (L'opéra de Toulon) is a French opera house located in Toulon. The second-largest opera house in France, after the Palais Garnier in Paris, it opened thirteen years before the Garnier. It is currently the home of the Opéra Toulon Provence Méditerranée, under the direction of Jérôme Brunetière. The opera company performs about eight operas a season in the opera houses of Toulon, Avignon, Nice and Marseille. The house seats 1,797 people on five levels.
