Pulttibois
Pulttibois (Finglish for "Bolt Boys"; also a play on words of ''pultti pois'' - "to have a screw loose") was a popular Finnish sketch comedy television show that premiered on MTV3 in 1989 and which starred a two-man cast of comedic actors - Pirkka-Pekka Petelius and Aake Kalliala. Both Petelius and Kalliala had been previously known for their work on YLE sketch comedies during the 1980s. In ''Pulttibois'', Petelius and Kalliala created a compilation of over the top sketches, eventually leading to a large cult following. Three seasons of the show were made between 1989 and 1991, after which the show ended. It was succeeded by the similarly conceived, though less popular '' Manitbois''. The show can still be seen in reruns on MTV3 and SubTV and has been released on DVD. Spede Pasanen
Pertti Olavi "Spede" Pasanen (10 April 1930 – 7 September 2001) was a Finnish film director and producer, comedian, and inventor. During his career he directed, wrote, produced or acted in about 50 film, movies and participated in numerous TV productions, including the comedy ''Spede Show'' and the game-show ''Speden Spelit''. Much of his more commercial work was in collaboration with Vesa-Matti Loiri (whose most popular character created by Pasanen was Uuno Turhapuro; first in TV sketches and then in a long-lasting series of motion pictures) and Simo Salminen. Pasanen's films and TV shows, often made quickly and on a low budget, usually received little critical recognition but were popular among Finnish audiences from the 1960s onwards. Pirkka-Pekka Petelius
Pirkka-Pekka Petelius (born 31 May 1953) is a Finnish actor, Film director, director, Film producer, producer, screenwriter and politician. He has also released six records as a singer. He is a member of the Green League and was elected to the Parliament of Finland, Finnish parliament in the 2019 election with 6,331 personal votes. Petelius's breakthrough was in Yleisradio's sketch series ''Velipuolikuu'' (1983), which he wrote and also acted in. The popularity gained by the series started Petelius's career as one of the most well-known comedians in Finland. He gained immense popularity due to his work in the sketch series ''Pulttibois'' (and its sequel, ''Manitbois'') with Aake Kalliala. Despite being known as a comedian Petelius has also acted in several more serious roles in films and television, especially in the recent years. Pump Up The Volume (song)
"Pump Up the Volume" is the only single by British recording act MARRS. Recorded and released in 1987, it was a number-one hit in many countries and is regarded as a significant milestone in the development of British acid house music and music sampling. The song derives its title directly from a lyrical sample from " I Know You Got Soul", a hit single by labelmates Eric B. & Rakim, released months prior in that same year. The single was the product of an uneasy collaboration between electronic group Colourbox and alternative rock band A.R. Kane, two groups signed to the independent label 4AD. MTV3 ( fi, MTV Kolme, sv, MTV Tre) is a Finnish commercial television station. It had the biggest audience share of all Finnish TV channels until Yle TV1 (from Yle) took the lead. The letters MTV stand for Mainos-TV (literally "Advertisement-TV", i.e. "Commercial TV), due to the channel carrying advertising for revenue. Number 3 was added later, when the channel was allocated the third nationwide television channel and it generally became known as "Channel Three"—Finnish Broadcasting Company’s Yle TV1 and Yle TV2 being the first two—and also to distinguish it from the later MTV Finland, which is a Finnish version of Paramount's MTV channel. Finglish
The term Finglish was coined by professor Martti Nisonen in the 1920s in Hancock, Michigan, to describe a mixture of Finnish and English he encountered in America. The word is first recorded in English in 1943. As the term describes, Finglish is a macaronic mixture of the English and Finnish languages. In Finglish, the English lexical items are nativized and inserted into the framework of Finnish morphology and syntax. Many consider the adoption of English loanwords into Finnish phonology, morphology, and syntax not to be proper Finnish, but rather a language in between. The term "Finglish" can imply that this adoption of loanwords and usage of language is incomplete and somehow less legitimate. However, this use of loanwords and code-switching amongst bilingual speakers is typical in communities experiencing language shift. MTV Sub (formerly TVTV!, Subtv and Sub) is a Finnish TV channel owned by MTV Oy. The previous owner Alma Media sold Sub and its sister channels (MTV3, C More Max, MTV Ava Radio Nova and Sävelradio) to Swedish Bonnier and Proventus in 2005.
