Puerto Rico Statehood Students Association
The Puerto Rico Statehood Students Association (PRSSA) es, Asociación de Estudiantes Estadistas de Puerto Rico is a Puerto Rican non-profit student organization dedicated to promoting statehood for Puerto Rico. It was founded in 1979, and remained active for two years, becoming inactive 1981–1993, active again 1993 to 1997, inactive once more 1997 to 2007, when it was reactivated once again.The status of this organization since 2007 (whether active, inactive or dissolved) is not known. PRSSA promotes the participation of pro-statehood students in the political process, serves as a pro-statehood student think tank, leads a grassroots approach to lobby the United States Congress, and provides professional development to its members through informational and internship programs. Oreste Ramos Díaz is a Puerto Rican intellectual, lawyer, politician and former senator. He served as a member of the Senate of Puerto Rico from 1977 to 1996, representing the New Progressive Party (PNP). Ramos was first elected to the Senate of Puerto Rico at the 1976 elections. He represented the District of San Juan, and was reelected in 1980, 1984, 1988, and 1992. In 2008, Ramos attempted a comeback, but was defeated at the PNP primaries. The next year, Ramos was one of the candidates considered to fill the vacancy left by former senator Jorge de Castro Font, who resigned to his chair after being convicted by federal authorities. Pedro Juan Rosselló González, (; born April 5, 1944) is a Puerto Rican physician and politician who served as the governor of Puerto Rico from 1993 to 2001. He was President of the New Progressive Party from 1991 to 1999 and 2003 to 2008, and served as Senator for the District of Arecibo from 2005 to 2008. His son, Ricardo was also Governor of Puerto Rico from 2017 to 2019. In 1988 Rosselló ran for Resident Commissioner of Puerto Rico, but lost to Jaime Fuster in the 1988 elections.
