Public Housing In Hong Kong
Public housing in Hong Kong is a set of mass housing programmes through which the Government of Hong Kong provides affordable housing for lower-income residents. It is a major component of housing in Hong Kong, with nearly half of the population now residing in some form of public housing. The public housing policy dates to 1954, after a fire in Shek Kip Mei destroyed thousands of shanty homes and prompted the government to begin constructing homes for the poor. Public housing is mainly built by the Hong Kong Housing Authority and the Hong Kong Housing Society. Rents and prices are significantly lower than those for private housing and are heavily subsidised by the government, with revenues partially recovered from sources such as rents and charges collected from car parks and shops within or near the residences. North Point is a mixed-use urban area in the Eastern District, Hong Kong, Eastern District of Hong Kong. Located in the northeastern part of Hong Kong Island, the area is named after a cape between Tin Hau, Hong Kong, Causeway Bay and Tsat Tsz Mui that projects toward Kowloon Bay. Ma Hang Estate
Ma Hang Estate () is a public housing estate in Stanley, Hong Kong Island, Hong Kong. Formerly the site of Ma Hang Squatter Area, the estate is designed as "working village" and consists of five residential blocks completed between 1993 and 2000 for providing in-site rehousing for squatters. Stanley Plaza, Murray House and Blake Pier at Stanley are also the territories of Ma Hang Estate. Lung Yan Court () is a Home Ownership Scheme court in Stanley next to Ma Hang Estate. Stanley, Hong Kong
Stanley, or Chek Chue, is a coastal town and a popular tourist attraction in Hong Kong. It is located on a peninsula on Hong Kong Island. It is east of Repulse Bay and west of Shek O, adjacent to Chung Hom Kok and Tai Tam. Administratively, it is part of the Southern District. The Chinese name "Chek Chue" refers to the original village-town but "Stanley" generally refers to all the surrounding areas of the peninsula on Hong Kong Island. Name There are two possible origins of the name "Chek Chue". Legend has it that the notorious pirate Cheung Po Tsai was active in Stanley. Wah Fu Estate
Wah Fu Estate () is a public housing estate located next to Waterfall Bay, Pok Fu Lam in Hong Kong's Southern District. It was built on a new town concept in 1967 and was renovated in 2003. Divided into Wah Fu (I) Estate () and Wah Fu (II) Estate (), the whole estate has a total of 18 residential blocks completed between 1967 and 1978. There are several primary and secondary schools in the estate, including Pui Ying Secondary School, SKH Lui Ming Choi Secondary School and Caritas Chong Yut Ming Secondary School. They provide education to children in the estate and the surrounding areas. Fortuna Theatre is the only cinema on the estate. Shek Pai Wan Estate
Shek Pai Wan Estate () is a public housing estate in Shek Pai Wan of Aberdeen, Hong Kong, on a hill to the east of the town centre. It comprises eight standard residential blocks, a non-standard small household block, a primary school, a shopping centre and a bus terminus. Background Shek Pai Wan Estate was a resettlement estate and it consisted of seven blocks built between 1966 and 1968. In 1985, Block 2 was found to have structural problems by the Hong Kong Housing Authority, so it was firstly demolished in 1988. The estate started redevelopment in 1998 and the redevelopment project was divided into three phases. However, Phases 1 and 2 were combined and renamed as Phase 1 whereas Phase 3 was renamed as Phase 2 later. There are seven new blocks completed in 2005 and 2007 respectively. Waterfall Bay, Hong Kong
Waterfall Bay or Pok Po Wan () is a bay in Pok Fu Lam, Hong Kong Island, Hong Kong. Located on the East Lamma Channel off the coast of Wah Fu Estate and Cyberport at Telegraph Bay, it is named after the waterfall that flows into it. The fresh water from this waterfall is said to have given the city its name – the translation of Hong Kong's name in Cantonese 香港 means "fragrant harbour". An eponymous park is now situated around the area. Kellett Bay
Kellett Bay (), or Kai Lung Wan () is a bay on southwestern Hong Kong Island in Hong Kong, to the southeast of Waterfall Bay. The pronunciation of ''Wan'' () in ''Kai Lung Wan'' in the Cantonese language is like the one in (as in Cheung Sha Wan, To Kwa Wan and Causeway Bay (''Tung Lo Wan'')). Kellett Bay was named after the naval officer Sir Henry Kellett. Kellett Island and Mount Kellett were also named after him. Aberdeen, Hong Kong
Aberdeen () is an area on southwest Hong Kong Island in Hong Kong. Administratively, it is part of the Southern District. While the name "Aberdeen" could be taken in a broad sense to encompass the areas of Aberdeen (town), Wong Chuk Hang, Ap Lei Chau, Tin Wan, Wah Kwai Estate and Wah Fu Estate, it is more often used to refer to the town only.
