Ptychandra
''Ptychandra'' is a butterfly genus in the subfamily Satyrinae within the family Nymphalidae. ''Ptychandra'' was first described by Cajetan Felder and Rudolf Felder in 1861. The genus comprises eight species, seven found in the Philippines with an additional species found on the island of Borneo. It is remarkable for the fact that it is one of a few genera to have undergone evolutionary radiation in the Philippine archipelago, with most other species being migrants from the Asian mainland. Taxonomy ''Ptychandra'' was described in 1861 by Cajetan von Felder and Rudolf Felder. The type species is ''Ptychandra lorquinii''. Previously described as "difficult to place satisfactorily in the higher classification of the Satyrinae", it has been previously grouped with the Elymniini and Melanitini. Fruhstorfer (1908) noted similarities with the characteristics of ''Mycalesis'' and ''Orsotriaena medus, Orsotriaena'' rather than ''Lethe (butterfly), Lethe''. Reuter (1897) instead puts ''P ...

Ptychandra Ohtanii
''Ptychandra ohtanii'' is a butterfly of the family Nymphalidae. It is endemic to the Philippines. Its forewing length is 26–29 mm. The species resembles ''Ptychandra lorquinii, P. lorquinii''. Black hair-pencil is arising in space 3 of forewing upperside in ''P. ohtanii'' whereas arising on cubitus in ''P. lorquinii''. The nominotypical subspecies is distributed only on Mount Apo on Mindanao island. Another subspecies is found on Leyte island. The species is rare on both islands. Satyrini
The Satyrini is one of the tribes of the subfamily Satyrinae. It includes about 2200 species and is therefore the largest tribe in the subfamily which comprises 2500 species. Distribution Satyrini butterflies have a worldwide distribution, but the distribution pattern differs between subtribes. Some subtribes are almost restricted to a single biogeographic region, such as the Pronophilina, which is found only in Andean cloud forests from Venezuela to Bolivia. Biology The larval food plants of many species in this tribe are grasses, i.e. Poaceae. It is considered that the Satyrini diversified at about the same time as the grasses did, and that the radiation of the tribe is therefore closely related to the evolution of the grasses. In contrast, the tribe has a few genera which show uncommon feeding preferences. Three genera, '' Euptychia'', ''Ragadia'' and ''Acrophtalmia'', feed on Lycopsida, and moreover, some species of ''Euptychia'' have been reported to feed on mosses o ...

Camiguin De Babuyanes
Camiguin de Babuyanes is an active stratovolcano on Camiguin Island, part of the Babuyan Islands group that is located in Luzon Strait, north of the island of Luzon, in the Philippines. The volcano and the island are within the jurisdiction of the municipality of Calayan, in the province of Cagayan. The island has a population of 5,231 people in 2020. Physical features The well-forested Mount Camiguin or Camiguin de Babuyanes, to distinguish it from Camiguin of Mindanao, has an elevation of asl, and a base diameter of . It occupies the southwest tip of long Camiguin Island. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHILVOCS) lists Camiguin de Babuyanes as one of the active volcanoes in the Philippines. All volcanoes in the Philippines are part of the Pacific ring of fire. Eruptions An eruption was recorded around 1857. It was reported as phreatic and possibly partly submarine. In 1991, there were reports of volcanic activity but instrumental investigations ...

Evolutionary Radiation
An evolutionary radiation is an increase in taxonomic diversity that is caused by elevated rates of speciation, that may or may not be associated with an increase in morphological disparity. Radiations may affect one clade or many, and be rapid or gradual; where they are rapid, and driven by a single lineage's adaptation to their environment, they are termed adaptive radiations. Examples Perhaps the most familiar example of an evolutionary radiation is that of placental mammals immediately after the extinction of the non-avian dinosaurs at the end of the Cretaceous, about 66 million years ago. At that time, the placental mammals were mostly small, insect-eating animals similar in size and shape to modern shrews. By the Eocene (58–37 million years ago), they had evolved into such diverse forms as bats, whales, and horses. Other familiar radiations include the Avalon Explosion, the Cambrian Explosion, the Great Ordovician Biodiversification Event, the Carboniferous-Earliest Perm ...

Neptis
''Neptis'' is a large genus of butterflies of Old World tropics subtropics. They are commonly called sailer butterflies or sailers, or more precisely typical sailers to distinguish them from the related blue sailer (''Pseudoneptis''). Description The head is rather broad and moderately hairy on the forehead. The eyes are large and prominent. The palpi are short, acute, slender, hairy, and do not rise above the level of the forehead. The antennae are moderately long, terminating in an elongate, gradually-formed club, flattened on its upper surface. The thorax is not robust and it is as broad as the head and slightly hairy posteriorly. The wing characters are: forewings elongate, rather truncate; costa only slightly arched; apex not acute, but well marked; hind margin slightly convex and sinuated; anal angle distinct; inner-margin convex near base, slightly concave about middle. Hindwings large, rounded; costa strongly arched; hind margin moderately dentate; inner margins only ...
