Prussian T 9
The Prussian T 9 was a class of German steam locomotive which included several types of tank engine, all with six coupled wheels and two carrying wheels operated by the Prussian state railways. T 9.1 Class T 9.1 of the Prussian state railways were goods train tank locomotives with a 0-6-2T wheel arrangement. They were intended for service on branch lines, for goods train duties on main lines and for shunting (rail) work. A total of 420 locomotives were built by various manufacturers for the Prussian state railways as well as 6 units for the Cronberg Railway, which had been taken over by the state railways in 1914. In 1923 they were included by the Deutsche Reichsbahn as DRG Class 90.0-2 in their initial numbering plan with running numbers 90 001 to 90 328. Steam Locomotive
A steam locomotive is a locomotive that provides the force to move itself and other vehicles by means of the expansion of steam. It is fuelled by burning combustible material (usually coal, oil or, rarely, wood) to heat water in the locomotive's boiler to the point where it becomes gaseous and its volume increases 1,700 times. Functionally, it is a steam engine on wheels. In most locomotives, the steam is admitted alternately to each end of its cylinders, in which pistons are mechanically connected to the locomotive's main wheels. Fuel and water supplies are usually carried with the locomotive, either on the locomotive itself or in a tender coupled to it. The main line, or mainline in American English, of a railway is a track that is used for through trains or is the principal artery of the system from which branch lines, yards, sidings and spurs are connected. Bavarian D VIII
The Bavarian Class D VIII (''bayerische D VIII'') were saturated steam locomotives with the Royal Bavarian State Railways (''Königlich Bayerische Staatsbahn''). History In 1888, new locomotives were needed for the Freilassing–Berchtesgaden railway, which has inclines of up to 40 per mille (4%). Krauss initially delivered three machines, that were given the railway numbers 904, 905 and 906. The powerful boiler required a carrying axle that, based on a suggestion by Richard von Helmholtz, was designed as a trailing axle in the form of a Krauss-Helmholtz bogie. Thus equipped the locomotives had good riding qualities on the faster downhill run that was carried out backwards, while, for the slower uphill journey, it was sufficient to have the front coupled axle in the lead. Cronenberg was formerly an independent German town in the Rhine Province. History Cronenberg has first been mentioned in 1050 as a part of the Werden-Abbey. Later on, its name changed from Croyaberge to Cromberg and the administrative structures changed as well. In 1453 the name Cronenberg was used for a village with a viable marketplace. KraussMaffei is a German manufacturer of injection molding machines, machines for plastics extrusion technology, and reaction process machinery. It was acquired by ChemChina in 2016. History Locomotives KraussMaffei was formed in 1931 from a merger of the two Munich firms of Maffei (founded 1838) and Krauss & Co. (founded 1860). Henschel-Werke
Henschel & Son (german: Henschel und Sohn) was a German company, located in Kassel, best known during the 20th century as a maker of transportation equipment, including locomotives, trucks, buses and trolleybuses, and armoured fighting vehicles and weapons. Georg Christian Carl Henschel founded the factory in 1810 at Kassel. His son Carl Anton Henschel founded another factory in 1837. In 1848, the company began manufacturing locomotives. The factory became the largest locomotive manufacturer in Germany by the 20th century. Bochum-Dahlhausen Railway Museum
The Eisenbahnmuseum Bochum-Dahlhausen is a railway museum situated south of the city of Bochum in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It was founded by DGEG, the German Railway History Company in 1977 and is based in a locomotive depot that was built between 1916 and 1918 and ceased operation in 1969. Then DGEG took over the whole area of 46,000 square metres and built up the biggest railway museum in Germany. In the middle of the museum, there is an engine shed with fourteen tracks. A preserved turntable, coaling, watering, and sanding facilities are still in operation.
