PromFest
PromFest is an international opera festival held biennially in Pärnu, Estonia, since 1996. PromFest stands for Pärnu International Opera Music Festival in Estonian. The main attraction of PromFest is an operatic production, in which the leading roles are performed by prizewinners from previous Klaudia Taev Competitions. The artistic director of PromFest is conductor Erki Pehk. Erki Pehk
Erki Pehk (born 23 March 1968) is an Estonian conductor and artistic director of opera music festival PromFest. Childhood Erki Pehk was born in Võru, Estonia in the family of Heino Pehk, an established music teacher and choir conductor. Erki started learning music (piano) at age six at the Võru Music school. Education In 1982 he moved to Tallinn for the piano and choir conducting studies at the Tallinn Music High School. After graduating in 1986 he started to study choir conducting with Prof. Ants Üleoja and orchestra conducting with Peeter Lilje at the Tallinn Conservatoire (now Estonian Academy of Music). At the same time before his graduation in 1993 he studied orchestra conducting at the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music with Paul Mägi (years 1992–1994). Klaudia Taev Competition
The Klaudia Taev Competition is a competition for young opera singers. It is the main event of the Pärnu Opera Music Festival PromFest. The Competition has been named after a local legendary singing teacher Klaudia Taev. The first Competition was held in the year 1996 and since 2001 it takes place biannually. The main prize of the competition is the proposal to sing the main opera role in opera production, which is selected at the request of the winner of the competition. Teet Kask
Teet Kask (born 8 May 1968 in Pärnu) is an Estonian choreographer. Overview In 1978, he joined the Tallinn Ballet School, where he studied Vaganova classical ballet. At 18 years old, he had leading roles in the Estonian National Ballet. A turning point for Kask came when he was engaged by The Royal Swedish Ballet, in 1989, as the first Estonian ballet artist to work full-time in West before the Iron Curtain fell in 1991. In 1990, he was invited to work with the Norwegian National Ballet. In 1997, parallel with dancing, Kask began to work as a freelance choreographer. Mai Murdmaa
Mai-Ester Murdmaa (born 31 March 1938) is an Estonian choreographer, ballet dancer, ballet master and director. Murdmaa was born in Tallinn. Her older brother Ivar Murdmaa is a marine geologist and her younger brother Allan Murdmaa was an architect. Her sister Kai Murdmaa is a physicist. In 1956 she graduated from the Tallinn Ballet School. In 1964 she graduated from GITIS in ballet master speciality. From 1956 until 1960, she was a dancer at the Estonia Theatre, after that, she was the ballet master (1964–1973) and principal ballet master (1974–2001) at the Estonia Theatre. It is based on ''La Dame aux camélias'' (1852), a play by Alexandre Dumas ''fils'' adapted from his own 1848 novel. The opera was originally titled ''Violetta'', after the main character. Edda Moser (born 27 October 1938) is a German operatic soprano. She was particularly well known for her interpretations of music by Mozart. Her 1973 recital LP ' received the Grand Prix du Disque. Life and career Moser was born in Berlin, the daughter of the musicologist Hans Joachim Moser. She is aunt to cellist Johannes Moser and pianist Benjamin Moser. She studied at the Stern Conservatory with Hermann Weißenborn and Gerty König and made her debut as Kate Pinkerton in '' Madama Butterfly'' at the Deutsche Oper Berlin in 1962.
