Project For Good Information
The Project for Good Information (PGI) is an American group founded by Democratic strategist Tara McGowan. Its stated purpose is to combat disinformation and misinformation online by promoting verified traditional media outlets and has called for the regulation of social media platforms to combat misinformation. The project includes forming a 501(c)(3) organization called the Good Information Project, which will grant money to non-profit media companies, and a public benefit corporation called Good Information Inc., which will invest in for-profit media companies. Tara McGowan
Tara McGowan (born ) is an American political strategist and journalist. She was the co-founder and CEO of multiple organizations which have been noted for large expenditures on digital advertising in preparation for the 2020 United States presidential election, including the political organization Acronym, the company Lockwood Strategy, and the media company Courier Newsroom. She was the director of the advertising branch of Priorities USA Action, which was the primary super PAC supporting Hillary Clinton's 2016 presidential campaign, and was a digital producer for the re-election campaign of Barack Obama. Disinformation
Disinformation is false information deliberately spread to deceive people. It is sometimes confused with misinformation, which is false information but is not deliberate. The English word ''disinformation'' comes from the application of the Latin prefix ''dis-'' to ''information'' making the meaning "reversal or removal of information". Misinformation
Misinformation is incorrect or misleading information. It differs from disinformation, which is ''deliberately'' deceptive. Rumors are information not attributed to any particular source, and so are unreliable and often unverified, but can turn out to be either true or false. Even if later retracted, misinformation can continue to influence actions and memory. People may be more prone to believe misinformation because they are emotionally connected to what they are listening to or are reading.
