Progressive Democratic Party ( es, Partido Demócrata Progresista; PDP) was a Spanish Conservatism, conservative political party, founded in 1978. The main leader of the PDP was Alfonso Osorio, who was elected as MP in the Spanish general election, 1979, elections of 1979. Alfonso Osorio
Alfonso Osorio García (13 December 1923 – 27 August 2018) was a Spanish politician. Born in Santander on 13 December 1923, Osorio studied law at the University of Oviedo. He joined the State Lawyers Corps in 1953, serving in Cuenca and Toledo. He later joined the Legal Service of the Spanish Air Force. He was also a member of the Francoist Cortes and took several business administration positions. Osorio was named Minister of the Presidency and Second Vice President under Carlos Arias Navarro and retained his position under Adolfo Suárez, as was his very close aid during the hard times of the Transition. Osorio was appointed to the Senate from 1977 to 1979. After leaving the Suárez government and the Union of the Democratic Centre, Osorio led the Progressive Democratic Party until his resignation in September 1979. The People's Alliance ( es, Alianza Popular, AP) was a post-Francoist electoral coalition, and later a conservative political party in Spain, founded in 1976 as a federation of political associations. Transformed into a party in 1977 and led by Manuel Fraga, it became the main conservative right-wing party in Spain. It was refounded as the People's Party in 1989. Spanish General Election, 1979
The 1979 Spanish general election was held on Thursday, 1 March 1979, to elect the 1st Cortes Generales of the Kingdom of Spain. All 350 seats in the Congress of Deputies were up for election, as well as all 208 seats in the Senate. This was the first election held under the Spanish Constitution of 1978. The Union of the Democratic Centre (UCD) remained the largest party, winning 168 of the 350 seats in the Congress of Deputies and 119 of the 208 seats in the Senate. Manuel Fraga Iribarne (; 23 November 1922 – 15 January 2012) was a Spanish professor and politician in Francoist Spain, who was also the founder of the People's Party. Fraga was Minister of Information and Tourism between 1962 and 1969, Ambassador to the United Kingdom between 1973 and 1975, Minister of the Interior in 1975, Second Deputy Prime Minister between 1975 and 1976, President of the People's Alliance/People's Party between 1979 and 1990 and President of the Regional Government of Galicia between 1990 and 2005.
