Hong Kong Correctional Services
Hong Kong Correctional Services (also called Correctional Services Department (CSD)) is responsible for the management of prisoners and prisons in Hong Kong. The Commissioner of Correctional Services reports to the Secretary for Security. Although the Chief Magistrate (now Commissioner of Police) was given control over prisons in 1841, the legislation to create the department did not come into being until 1853. CSD was part of the Hong Kong Police Force until 1879 when the role of Superintendent of Victoria Gaol was created. The department has been financially independent from the Hong Kong Police Force since December 1920, when the Superintendent of Victoria Gaol was re-titled as the Superintendent of Prisons. Lo Wu
Lo Wu or Lowu is an area in North District, New Territories, Hong Kong. It lies on the border between Hong Kong and mainland China, specifically the Luohu District of Shenzhen in mainland China. The area is most notable as the location of the most heavily used immigration control point for passengers travelling to and from mainland China. It is where the Lo Wu station is located. Hei Ling Chau Addiction Treatment Centre
The Hei Ling Chau Addiction Treatment Centre is a government-run drug rehabilitation centre located on the island of Hei Ling Chau in Hong Kong. The Centre is operated by the Hong Kong Correctional Services Department and reserved for male detainees only. The current superintendent of the Centre is Or Suen-wai, Timothy. On 18 March 1994, the Centre was granted the use of all structures on the island of Hei Ling Chau which were not already in use by the existing correctional centres by order of the Secretary for Security under the Drug Addiction Treatment Centre (Hei Ling Chau Addiction Treatment Centre) Order regulation. The Centre is part of the CSD's Compulsory Placement Programme, i.e. accepting detained persons convicted of offences under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance. Hei Ling Chau
Hei Ling Chau, formerly Hayling Chau, is an island of Hong Kong, located east of Silver Mine Bay and Chi Ma Wan of Lantau Island. Administratively, it is part of the Islands District. Geography Hei Ling Chau is located south of Peng Chau and north of Cheung Chau. Its companion, Sunshine Island, is at its northeast. It has an area of , and the highest hill heighted . Chi Ma Wan () is a bay on southeastern Lantau Island, New Territories, Hong Kong. Chi Ma Wan Peninsula () is where Chi Ma Wan, as well as Cheung Sha Wan, Tai Long Wan, Yi Long Wan and Mong Tung Wan are located. The Peninsula is located within the boundaries of Lantau South Country Park. Correctional institutions The Chi Ma Wan Correctional Institution is near Cheung Sha Wan on the peninsula. It was originally picked out by the Hong Kong Colonial Government as a site to house Russian refugees but in the end they decided not to build it and focussed on a prison instead. Shek Pik Prison
Shek Pik Prison () is located at 47 Shek Pik Reservoir Road, Shek Pik, Lantau Island, Hong Kong. It was built in 1984, and is managed by the Hong Kong Correctional Services. The prison is used to contain prisoners with medium to long sentences, along with those sentenced to life imprisonment. History Shek Pik Prison officially opened in 1984 as a maximum-security facility with a capacity of 466 prisoners, helping to relieve Stanley Prison. It cost approximately HK$135 million to construct. The prison was built with high-tech security features including a 160-camera video surveillance system and infrared perimeter alarm, as well as a solar energy water heating system, the government's largest such solar energy system at that time. Shek Pik
Shek Pik () is an area located along the southwestern coast of Lantau Island, Hong Kong. When the Shek Pik Reservoir was built, villages at Shek Pik were demolished and the villagers were relocated to other parts of Lantau Island and to Tsuen Wan. Below the dam of the reservoir is Shek Pik Prison. Geography Shek Pik was originally a north-south oriented valley, until all the upper part was filled by the water of the Shek Pik Reservoir, which was completed in 1963. Before the construction of the reservoir, the valley was settled by several villages and most of the valley floor and the foothills were occupied by terraced paddy fields.
