Principe Di Carignano-class Ironclad
The ''Principe di Carignano'' class was a group of three ironclad warships built for the Italian '' Regia Marina'' (Royal Navy) in the 1860s. The class comprised the ships , , and . Originally ordered as wooden frigates, they were the first ironclads to be built in Italy, but the inexperience of the Italian shipyards and the redesign process produced lengthy construction times, such that only the lead ship was completed in time to see action during the Third Italian War of Independence in 1866. The first two ships were protected by a complete belt of wrought iron plating that was thick, while ''Conte Verde'' only received a partial iron belt. ''Principe di Carignano'' took part in the Battle of Lissa on 20 July 1866, where she led the Italian line of battle, but was not heavily engaged. Cantiere Della Foce
''Cantiere della Foce'' (Shipyard of the Mouth) was an Italian shipyard founded around 1800 in the village of Foce (later absorbed by Genoa) at the mouth of the Bisagno River. It built its first warship in 1804, but shipbuilding was very intermittent until the Kingdom of Sardinia acquired Liguria in 1815. Attilio Odero acquired the shipyard in 1890, combining it with his other Genoese shipyard, the Cantieri navali Odero. Both shipyards were amalgamated, together with the Ansaldo-San Giorgio shipyard at Muggiano and the armament works of Vickers-Terni into Odero-Terni in 1927. Battle Of Lissa (1866)
The Battle of Lissa (or Battle of Vis) ( hr, Bitka kod Visa) took place on 20 July 1866 in the Adriatic Sea near the Dalmatian island of Vis () and was a significant victory for an Austrian Empire force over a numerically superior Italian force. It was the first major sea battle between ironclads and one of the last to involve deliberate ramming. The Italian navy fired roughly 1450 shots during the engagement, but failed to sink any Austrian ship while losing two ironclads. Length between perpendiculars (often abbreviated as p/p, p.p., pp, LPP, LBP or Length BPP) is the length of a ship along the summer load line from the forward surface of the stem, or main bow perpendicular member, to the after surface of the sternpost, or main stern perpendicular member. Giuseppe De Luca (25 December 1876 – 26 August 1950), was an Italian baritone who achieved his greatest triumphs at the Metropolitan Opera in New York City.
