Prince Nikolai of Denmark, Count of Monpezat (Nikolai William Alexander Frederik; born 28 August 1999) is a member of the Danish royal family. He is the eldest son of Prince Joachim and his first wife, Alexandra, Countess of Frederiksborg, and oldest grandchild of Queen Margrethe II. He is currently seventh in the line of succession to the Danish throne. At the time of his birth, he was third, after his uncle and father. Biography Prince Nikolai was born at Rigshospitalet in Copenhagen on 28 August 1999. He is the oldest grandchild of Queen Margrethe II of Denmark and her late husband, Prince Henrik. Count of Monpezat (Danish language, Danish: ''Greve af Monpezat'') or Countess of Monpezat (Danish: ''Grevinde af Monpezat'') when the holder is female, is a Denmark, Danish hereditary title of nobility. It was granted on 30 April 2008 by Margrethe II of Denmark, Queen Margrethe II to her two sons, Frederik, Crown Prince of Denmark, Crown Prince Frederik and Prince Joachim of Denmark, Prince Joachim, and their legitimate Patrilineality, patrilineal (male-line) descendants of both sexes. The title is based on the French title "Comte de Laborde de Monpezat" which was used by their father Henrik, Prince Consort of Denmark. The House of Monpezat () is a French old bourgeois family from the Province of Béarn associated with the Danish Royal Family by marriage after 1967, when Henri de Laborde de Monpezat wed Princess Margrethe of Denmark, then the heir presumptive of the ruling House of Glücksburg, and as of 1972 is the Queen of Denmark. Its members owned three homes and farms in Monpezat and Beaufranc in Béarn that were declared "noble lands" by letters of 1655, but the Laborde family was denied twice in 1703 and 1707 to be admitted with the nobility at the Estates of Béarn. Admission into the Estates of Béarn was a necessary condition to be recognized as noble in Béarn. The Danish Act of Succession, adopted on 5 June 1953, restricts the throne to those descended from Christian X and his wife, Alexandrine of Mecklenburg-Schwerin, through approved marriages. Succession is by a change in the law in 2009 governed by absolute primogeniture. Varde is a Danish city in southwestern Jutland and is the primary city in the municipality of Varde, in Region of Southern Denmark. In 2015 municipality changed its motto to "We in nature" to emphasize its rural atmosphere.
