Prime Minister's Challenge Fund
The Prime Minister's Challenge Fund was established in October 2013 with £50 million for NHS England to help improve access to general practice and stimulate innovative ways of providing primary care services. Pilots Twenty pilots were announced in April 2014. David Cameron announced further funding of £100m for 2015/16 on 30 September 2014 for a second wave of 37 pilots. The fund has been used for a variety of projects: * A single front entrance and alterations to the Minor Injuries Unit at Newark Hospital for Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. * Seven day access and evening opening hours for Wigan Borough Clinical Commissioning Group - and many similar schemes. * A virtual hub which patients will be able to use to speak to doctors without the need to go to A&E or wait for an appointment for SW Healthcare in Worcestershire. NHS England
NHS England, officially the NHS Commissioning Board, is an executive non-departmental public body of the Department of Health and Social Care. It oversees the budget, planning, delivery and day-to-day operation of the commissioning side of the National Health Service in England as set out in the Health and Social Care Act 2012. It directly commissions NHS general practitioners, dentists, optometrists and some specialist services. The Secretary of State publishes annually a document known as the ''NHS mandate'' which specifies the objectives which the Board should seek to achieve. Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust was formed in 2001 and gained Foundation Trust status in 2007. It runs three hospitals in Nottinghamshire - King's Mill Hospital, Newark Hospital and Mansfield Community Hospital. It also operates services from Ashfield Health Village. Services From September 2017 all referrals to the trust are made electronically using the NHS e-Referral Service. This has reduced the rate of patients missing appointments from 10% to 5%. Finance The Trust has a substantial PFI scheme. The £265 million scheme which will run for 30 years covers new buildings, refurbishments, facilities, services, equipment and capital investment equipment costs and will run until March 2043. Clinical Commissioning Group
Clinical commissioning groups (CCGs) were NHS organisations set up by the Health and Social Care Act 2012 to organise the delivery of NHS services in each of their local areas in England. On 1 July 2022 they were abolished and replaced by Integrated care systems as a result of the Health and Care Act 2022. Establishment The announcement that GPs would take over this commissioning role was made in the 2010 white paper "Equity and Excellence: Liberating the NHS". This was part of the government's stated desire to create a clinically-driven commissioning system that was more sensitive to the needs of patients. King's Fund
The King's Fund is an independent think tank, which is involved with work relating to the health system in England. It organises conferences and other events. Since 1997, they have jointly funded a yearly award system with GlaxoSmithKline. They reward small to medium-sized health charities who are improving people's health. The Chief Executive is Richard Murray. Before 1948 the body contributed significantly to London's voluntary hospitals.
