The president of the Senate ( km, ប្រធានព្រឹទ្ធសភា, ) is the presiding officer of the upper chamber of the legislature of Cambodia. The Senate was created in 1972 during the Khmer Republic replacing the previous upper house, the Council of Kingdom. Speaker (politics)
The speaker of a deliberative assembly, especially a legislative body, is its presiding officer, or the chair. The title was first used in 1377 in England. Usage The title was first recorded in 1377 to describe the role of Thomas de Hungerford in the Parliament of England.Lee Vol 28, pp. 257,258. The speaker's official role is to moderate debate, make rulings on procedure, announce the results of votes, and the like. The speaker decides who may speak and has the powers to discipline members who break the procedures of the chamber or house. Sisowath Monireth
Sisowath Monireth ( km, ស៊ីសុវត្ថិ មុន្នីរ៉េត; 25 November 1909 – September 1975) was a Cambodian politician who served as the Prime Minister of Cambodia, during the French protectorate period, from 17 October 1945 to 15 December 1946. One of the most prominent members of the Sisowath line of the royal family at the time, he had earlier been passed over for the throne by the French authorities in favor of his nephew Norodom Sihanouk, whom they considered to be more pliable. The prince, however, remained heir to the throne under Sihanouk's reign. From 1939 to 1945, he fought for France in World War II. Sim Var ( km, ស៊ឹម វ៉ា; 2 February 190612 October 1989) was a Cambodian politician. He served as Prime Minister of Cambodia from July 1957 to January 1958 and from April to July 1958. Together with Chhean Vam and Ieu Koeus, he co-founded the Democratic Party in April 1946. As a nationalist, Var opposed the French rule over Cambodia and led opposition movements with other nationalists. He was Cambodia's Ambassador to Japan during the 1970s. Penn Nouth ( km, ប៉ែន នុត; 15 April 1908 – 18 May 1985) was a Cambodian politician. He served in the French colonial administration, then took active part in Cambodian politics, was several times Prime Minister of Cambodia (1953, 1954–1955, 1958, 1961) as part of the Sangkum regime of Prince Norodom Sihanouk. He was the first prime minister of an independent Cambodia. He was prime minister for the sixth time from 31 January 1968 to 14 August 1969.
