Meas Samon
Meas Samon ( km, មាស សាម៉ន) was a Cambodian singer and comedian, active in that country's psychedelic rock scene of the late 1960s and early 1970s. As a young adult, Samon was in an army band and became known for singing humorous songs. According to LinDa Saphan, Samon and Yol Aularong "were the only singers and songwriters who were making social commentary through their songs." Samon in particular "used humor to draw attention to social conventions around relationships." Samon collaborated with several contemporary artists, such as Pan Ron, Sinn Sisamouth, and several duets with So Savoeun. According to the 2015 documentary ''Don't Think I've Forgotten'', he was caught playing music at a work camp during the Khmer Rouge regime. He was told to stop, and when caught a second time, he was taken away and imprisoned or executed. Meas Kheng
Meas Kheng (born 28 March 1946) is a Cambodian sprinter. She competed in the women's 100 metres at the 1972 Summer Olympics The 1972 Summer Olympics (), officially known as the Games of the XX Olympiad () and commonly known as Munich 1972 (german: München 1972), was an international multi-sport event held in Munich, West Germany, from 26 August to 11 September 1972. .... She was the first woman to represent Cambodia at the Olympics. She was dubbed as the "sprint queen" of Southeast Asia in the early seventies. At seventeen, Kheng was a finalist in the 400 metres at the 1963 GANEFO in Jakarta. Her time of 62.1 seconds still stands as the Cambodian junior record. On July 19, 1968 in Phnom Penh, Meas Kheng clocked 12.0 seconds to set the current Cambodian 100-metre hand-timed record. Meas Sophea
Meas Sophea (born 9 April 1955) is a senior general in the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces (RCAF). He is a former Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the RCAF and chief of the Royal Cambodian Army. Early life and education General Sophea was born in Banieve village, Banieve Commune, Chhouk district, Kampot Province on 9 April 1955. Due to the civil war that ravaged the country (followed by U.S. and South Vietnamese invasion of Cambodia 1970), he joined the Cambodian Nation Front Movement Liberation as a private at age 16. Meas studied at the local elementary school in Banieve. From 1969 to 1970, he was a student at the Chhouk ''High-School''. Due to the civil war in Cambodia, Meas Sophea went to Vietnam to complete his studies between 1975 and 1977, receiving a diploma. Sam Meas (born ) is a Haverhill, Massachusetts-based political candidate who has run as both a Republican and later a Democrat. Meas is the first Cambodian-American in U.S. history to run for Congress. Personal life He was born Meas Sombo, and grew up in Kandal Province, Cambodia. He lost his father to the Khmer Rouge and was subsequently separated from his mother and sisters during the Vietnamese invasion of Cambodia. He fled Cambodia with a cousin and ended up at the Khao-I-Dang refugee camp in Thailand. In 1986 he was sponsored as a refugee by Catholic Charities USA and moved to Virginia, where he lived with a foster family. Keo Meas
Keo Meas ( km, កែវ មាស, 1926–1976) was a Cambodian communist politician. Keo Meas, then a fourth-year student at the Phnom Penh Teachers Training College, was recruited to the Indochinese Communist Party by Son Sichan in 1946. In 1950, he became a leading figure within the United Issarak Front. At the same time he was a leading figure in the Phnom Penh city unit of the ICP. Keo Meas was involved in the reorganization of the city party unit, after it had been broken up by arrests in July 1952. In December the same year, he represented the UIF at the People's Peace Conference in Vienna. When the Cambodian parts of the ICP were converted to the Khmer People's Revolutionary Party in 1954, Keo Meas became the leader of the Phnom Penh unit of the new party. After the cessation of hostilities in the same year, Keo Meas was one of the representatives of the UIF in the Viet Minh side of the Joint Commission for the Implementation of the Geneva Accords.
