Eliseo Diego (July 2, 1920 – March 1, 1994) was a Cuban poet praised for his lyric poetry, and short stories. He was born in Havana and died in Mexico City. Diego, the father of writer Eliseo Alberto, won the Mexican Juan Rulfo Prize in 1993. He published his first collection of poetry, ''En las Oscuras Manos del Olvido'' ("In the Dark Hands of Forgetting"), at 22. He was part of the Cuban literary group ''Origines'' in the 1950s. Juan Gelman (3 May 1930 – 14 January 2014) was an Argentine poet. He published more than twenty books of poetry between 1956 and his death in early 2014. Sergio Pitol Deméneghi (18 March 1933 – 12 April 2018) was a Mexican writer, translator and diplomat. In 2005, he received the Cervantes Prize, the most prestigious literary award in the Spanish-speaking world. Early life Born in Puebla, Mexico, Pitol spent his childhood in Ingenio de Potrero, a provincial town in the state of Veracruz. Olga Orozco (17 March 1920 – 15 August 1999) (real name Olga Noemí Gugliotta Orozco) was an Argentine poet. She was a recipient of the FIL Award. Biography She was born in Toay, La Pampa, to Carmelo Gugliotta, a Sicilian from Capo d'Orlando, and an Argentinean mother, Cecilia Orozco. She spent her childhood in Bahía Blanca until she was 16 years old and she moved to Buenos Aires with her parents, where she studied at the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters of the University of Buenos Aires, and later initiated her career as a writer. She started to work for a newspaper company. There she would take up varies names and publish works with different pseudonym. Juan Marsé Carbó (8 January 1933 – 18 July 2020) was a Spanish novelist, journalist, and screenwriter who used Spanish as his literary language. In 2008, he was awarded the Cervantes Prize, "the Spanish-language equivalent" to the Nobel Prize in Literature. Biography Marsé was born Juan Faneca Roca in Barcelona. Nélida Piñon Nélida Piñon (3 May 1937 – 17 December 2022) was a Brazilian author and professor. At the time of her death, Piñon was "considered among the foremost writers in Brazil today".
