Premio Zobel
Premio Zóbel is a Philippine literary award conferred on Filipino writers in Spanish language. It was established to revivify the Spanish language and to promote the best writing created by Filipino authors in the language. Founded in 1920, it is the only literary prize in Asia that promotes Spanish language and the oldest literary award in the country. Mechanics The primary objective of Premio Zóbel is to give recognition Filipino writers in and advocates for Spanish language. The candidate must possess Spanish fluency. Awardees are judged members of the ''Academia Filipina'', an association promoting the advocacy of Spanish in the Philippines. In recent years, the criteria in selecting the winners had broadened. They may or may not need to have written a body of work, as the recognition can be given to anyone who champion the Spanish language. Guillermo Gómez Rivera
Guillermo Gómez y Rivera (; born 12 September 1936) is a Spanish-Filipino multilingual author, historian, educator and linguistic scholar whose lifelong work has been devoted to the advocay to preserve Spanish culture as an "important element" of the Filipino identity (according to Hispanista movement). Gómez is the most senior academic director of the Academia Filipina de la Lengua Española. In 1975, he was awarded the Premio Zobel, the Philippines' highest literary honor bestowed on works in Spanish. He was appointed secretary of the Commission on the Filipino Language Committee of the Philippine Constitutional Convention (1971–73). Diosdado Aenlle Talamayan, (born October 19, 1932) is a Filipino prelate of the Catholic Church. He served as the archbishop of the Archdiocese of Tuguegarao in the province of Cagayan, on the island of Luzon, Philippines from 1986 until his retirement in 2011. Buenaventura Rodriguez
Buenaventura Perez Rodriguez (July 14, 1893 – December 9, 1940) was a playwright, the governor of Cebu, Philippines from 1937 until 1940, and a member of the House of Representatives for two terms. He was the first Cebu governor of the Philippine Commonwealth. Early life and education The son of Filomino Rodriguez and Ana Perez, Buenaventura Rodriguez was born in Bogo, Cebu on July 14, 1893 and studied at the Ateneo de Manila University, Colegio de San Carlos, and Escuela de Derecho. Jesús Balmori y González-Mondragón (January 10, 1887 – May 23, 1948) was a Filipino Spanish language journalist, playwright, and poet. Antonio Abad y Mercado (May 10, 1894 – April 20, 1970), was a prominent Filipino poet, fictionist, playwright and essayist. Personal life Antonio Abad y Mercado was born in Barili, Cebu, under the Captaincy General of the Philippines, on 10 May 1894. José María Lasala del Mar (March 19, 1896–June 20, 1982), also known as Joe, was a Filipino journalist, editor, and publisher of ''La Prensa'', a Spanish language daily newspaper of Cebu City. del Mar was a writer, orator, playwright, theater actor, politician and authority on the Spanish Language.
