''Pre-Drink'' is a Canadian dramatic short film by Marc-Antoine Lemire, which won the Toronto International Film Festival Award for Best Canadian Short Film at the 2017 Toronto International Film Festival. The film stars Alex Trahan as Carl and Pascale Drevillon as Alexe, a gay man and a transgender woman whose longtime friendship is complicated when they decide to have sex. In December, TIFF named the film to its annual Canada's Top Ten list of the ten best Canadian short films. 2017 Toronto International Film Festival
The 42nd annual Toronto International Film Festival was held from 7 to 17 September 2017. There were fourteen programmes, with the Vanguard and City to City programmes both being retired from previous years, with the total number of films down by 20% from the 2016 edition. '' Borg/McEnroe'' directed by Janus Metz Pedersen opened the festival. According to a "fact sheet" released by the Festival before it began, this edition included 255 feature-length films and 84 short films. Of the feature films, 147 are claimed to be world premieres. The number of Canadian films at the Festival (including co-productions) is listed as 28 features and 29 shorts. Christopher Nolan's '' Dunkirk'' received a special IMAX 70mm screening at the Cinesphere as part of the main film slate and the 50th anniversary of IMAX, making it the first Nolan film to appear at the festival since ''Following'', nineteen years earlier. The 20th Quebec Cinema Awards ceremony was held on 3 June 2018 in Montreal, to recognize talent and achievement in the Cinema of Quebec. It was hosted by actresses Édith Cochrane and Guylaine Tremblay, who also jointly hosted the 2017 Prix Iris. Formerly known as the Jutra Awards, the Prix Iris name was announced in October 2016. A new category, Best Sound for a Documentary Film, was created for the 2018 event, and the nominees for Best Film was increased from five to seven. The first winner was announced in spring 2018, with director and screenwriter André Forcier honoured with the Iris Hommage for 50 years of contributions to the province's film industry.
