Praana (2022 Film)
''Praana (Seeds)'' ( si, ප්රාණ, ta, வித்துக்கள்) is a 2022 Sri Lankan trilingual drama film directed by Sanjaya Nirmal and produced by Janaka Perera. The film stars Shyam Fernando, Niranjani Shanmugaraja, Darshan Dharmaraj in lead roles, whereas Nita Fernando and King Ratnam made supportive roles. The film is based on the true story of the Great Catholic Christian Massacre of nearly 700 Christians that took place in 1544 in Mannar and the chain of events related to the same massacre that took place in 1560. The film will be the first film to be released in Sinhala, English and Tamil languages at the same period in Sri Lanka. Shyam Fernando
Shyam Fernando ( si, ශ්යාම් ප්රනාන්දු), is an actor in Sri Lankan cinema, stage drama and television. He is a dubbing artist and was nominated for several dramatic roles. Career Fernando started his drama career under Somalatha Subasinghe with Play House Kotte. He joined Subasinghe's children’s productions such as ''Thoppi Welenda'', ''Hima Kumari'', ''Walas Pawula''. He was then selected for the play ''Veeraya Marila'' directed by Rajitha Dissanayake. Fernando started his film career with a role in ''Oba Nathuwa Oba Ekka'' in 2012, directed by Prasanna Vithanage. Darshan Dharmaraj
Darshan Dharmaraj ( ta, தர்ஷன் தர்மராஜ், si, දර්ශන් ධර්මරාජ්; 2 March 1981 – 2 October 2022) was a Sri Lankan actor in film, theatre and television. He made his first television appearance through the Sidney Chandrasekara's teledrama ''A9''. He was awarded Best Actor Awards at several Film festivals in Sri Lanka for his portrayal as ex-LTTE cadre in Asoka Handagama's movie ''Ini Avan'' (2012). Nita Fernando (born 5 September 1947, නීටා ප්රනාන්දු) in Negombo, Sri Lanka is an actress in the Sri Lankan cinema. She has starred in films like '' Duhulu Malak'' and ''Pavuru Walalu''. Mannar Martyrs
In 1544, during the Crisis of the Sixteenth Century (1521–1597) in the Jaffna Kingdom, Cankili I killed 600 Catholic converts. Portuguese missionaries attributed the baptism, martyrdom and intercession of the Mannar Martyrs for the rapid conversion and growth of Catholicism in Sri Lanka.
