Colonel Poulett George Henry Somerset CB (19 June 1822 – 7 September 1875) was a British soldier and Conservative Party politician. Biography Somerset was the eldest son of Lord Charles Somerset by his second wife, Lady Mary Poulett, Somerset was educated at Eton and the Royal Military College, Sandhurst. He was commissioned into the Coldstream Guards in 1839. Lieutenant-General Edward Arthur Somerset Order of the Bath, CB (2 February 1817 – 12 March 1886) was a British soldier and Conservative Party (UK), Conservative Party politician, the son of Lord Robert Somerset. Biography He joined the Rifle Brigade as a second lieutenant on 29 January 1836, becoming a lieutenant on 9 July 1840 and a captain on 31 January 1845. The Most Honourable Order of the Bath is a British order of chivalry founded by George I on 18 May 1725. The name derives from the elaborate medieval ceremony for appointing a knight, which involved bathing (as a symbol of purification) as one of its elements. Lord Henry Richard Charles Somerset, PC, DL, JP (7 December 1849 – 10 October 1932) was a British Conservative politician and composer of popular music. He served as Comptroller of the Household under Benjamin Disraeli between 1874 and 1879. Background Somerset was the second son of Henry Somerset, 8th Duke of Beaufort, by his wife Lady Georgiana Charlotte Curzon, daughter of Richard Curzon-Howe, 1st Earl Howe. He was the brother of Henry Somerset, 9th Duke of Beaufort, and Lord Arthur Somerset.
