The Posavac or Posavina, also known as the Croatian Posavac and the Croatian Posavina ( hr, Hrvatski posavac, sl, Posavski konj or ), is a breed of medium-sized draught horse with a high capacity for weight pulling. Throughout its history, the breed has been popular for pulling wagons. It is also used for forestry, agricultural and other work. History The breed was developed in Posavina, a region alongside the Sava river in Croatia. It was based on a local Slavonian- Posavian horse breed called ''bušak'' (bushak), whose mares were crossbred to quality stallions of other breeds including Arabian, Nonius, Noriker and Percheron. The majority of Posavina horses are in Croatia, but the breed is also present in Bosnia-Herzegovina and Slovenia, where it is reared principally for meat. This is a list of all the horse breeds in the DAD-IS, the Domestic Animal Diversity Information System, a database of the FAO. There are about 4150 horse breed entries, reported by almost 200 countries, not all of which have horses. The breed names are those held in the database, and thus reflect the diversity between the various reporting countries; intentionally, no attempt has been made to link, unify, rationalise or translate them. One spelling error has been corrected. The list can be sorted by country, which offers no advantage over the database itself. The default sort order is alphabetical by breed, which allows the geographical range of a breed such as the Morgan to be seen. Chestnut (coat)
Chestnut is a hair coat color of horses consisting of a reddish-to-brown coat with a mane and tail the same or lighter in color than the coat. Chestnut is characterized by the absolute absence of true black hairs. It is one of the most common horse coat colors, seen in almost every breed of horse. Black is a hair coat color of horses in which the entire hair coat is black. Black is a relatively uncommon coat color, and it is not uncommon to mistake dark chestnuts or bays for black. True black horses have dark brown eyes, black skin, and wholly black hair coats without any areas of permanently reddish or brownish hair. Seal Brown (horse)
Seal brown is a hair coat color of horses characterized by a near-black body color; with black points, the mane, tail and legs; but also reddish or tan areas around the eyes, muzzle, behind the elbow and in front of the stifle. The term is not to be confused with "brown", which is used by some breed registries to refer to either a seal brown horse or to a dark bay without the additional characteristics of seal brown. Like bay, the seal brown color lacks the non-agouti mutation that would create a fully black horse. Bay is a hair coat color of horses, characterized by a reddish-brown or brown body color with a black point coloration on the mane, tail, ear edges, and lower legs. Bay is one of the most common coat colors in many horse breeds. The black areas of a bay horse's hair coat are called "black points", and without them, a horse is not a bay horse. Black points may sometimes be covered by white markings; however such markings do not alter a horse's classification as "bay".
