Portugalete (Bilbao Metro)
Portugalete is a station on line 2 of the Bilbao metro. It is located in central Portugalete. Opening on 20 January 2007, it acted as the northern terminus of the line until the line was extended to Santurtzi. There is a station on the Cercanías Bilbao commuter railway network with the same name, but the two stations are not connected. Portugalete
Portugalete is a town lying to the west of Bilbao in the province of Biscay in the Autonomous Community of Basque Country, northern Spain. The town has 45,766 inhabitants (2019 census) and is part of Bilbao's metropolitan area. It is located at the mouth of the Estuary of Bilbao, on the left bank. Its land area is only 3.21 km², resulting in a population density of 15,908.4 persons/km², the fifth-most densely populated municipality in Spain (following Mislata, L'Hospitalet de Llobregat, Benetússer, and Santa Coloma de Gramenet). In 1300 Portugalete became the main competitor port for Bilbao, but it lost its predominant position in 1511 when the trade privileges were granted to the Port of Bilbao instead of Portugalete. Line 2 (Bilbao Metro)
Line 2 of the Bilbao metro is a rapid transit line in Biscay, Basque Country, Spain. It runs from Basauri to Kabiezes. Its route covers the municipalities of Basauri and Etxebarri, the city of Bilbao and the left bank of the Nervión river. The line has 25 stations. History The first phase of the line opened on 13 April 2002, with five stations; Gurutzeta/Cruces, Ansio, Barakaldo, Bagatza and Urbinaga. Line 2 joins line 1 at San Ignazio, and from that station both lines continue along the same route to Etxebarri (when line 2 opened the southern terminus for both lines was Bolueta). The Bilbao metro ( es, Metro de Bilbao, eu, Bilboko metroa) is a rapid transit system serving the city of Bilbao and the region of Greater Bilbao. Cercanías Bilbao (Basque: ''Bilboko Aldiriak'') is a commuter rail network in Bilbao, serving the city and its metropolitan area. It is operated by Cercanías, as part of Renfe, the national railway company. It consists of three lines, named C-1, C-2 and C-3. Basauri (Bilbao Metro)
Basauri is the southern terminus of line 2 of the Bilbao metro. The station is located in the municipality of Basauri, part of the Bilbao metropolitan area. It opened in 2011. The Cercanías Bilbao commuter railway network (operated by Renfe) also has a Basauri station on its C3 line, but they are not at the same location – there is a distance of about between them, with the Cercanías station serving the industrial area to the south of the town, including the large steel facility.
