Porto Ravenna Volley
Porto Ravenna Volley was a historical volleyball club from the city of Ravenna in Emilia-Romagna. Ravenna founded by a group of businessmen and lovers inspired by Giuseppe Brusi, it landed in A1 at the end of the eighties, continuing a tradition that makes the city one of the "cradles" of Italian volleyball. Ravenna
Ravenna ( , , also ; rgn, Ravèna) is the capital city of the Province of Ravenna, in the Emilia-Romagna region of Northern Italy. It was the capital city of the Western Roman Empire from 408 until its collapse in 476. It then served as the capital of the Ostrogothic Kingdom until it was re-conquered in 540 by the Byzantine Empire. Volleyball is a team sport in which two teams of six players are separated by a net. Each team tries to score points by grounding a ball on the other team's court under organized rules. It has been a part of the official program of the Summer Olympic Games since Tokyo 1964. Beach volleyball was introduced to the programme at the Atlanta 1996. The adapted version of volleyball at the Summer Paralympic Games is sitting volleyball. The complete set of rules is extensive, but play essentially proceeds as follows: a player on one of the teams begins a 'rally' by serving the ball (tossing or releasing it and then hitting it with a hand or arm), from behind the back boundary line of the court, over the net, and into the receiving team's court. Gruppo Sportivo Porto Robur Costa, or simply Porto Robur Costa, is an Italian men's volleyball club based in Ravenna. The club also known as Bunge Ravenna for sponsorship reasons, participates in the Serie A1 championship. History Porto Robur Costa was founded in the summer of 2013 by the merging of two Ravenna-based clubs, Porto Ravenna Volley and Gruppo Sportivo Robur Angelo Costa. Porto Robur Costa made its debut in Serie A1 in the 2013–14 season, in which, after finished the regular season in ninth place, it won the CEV Challenge Cup play-offs, obtaining the right to participate in the competition of the same name under the name CMC Ravenna. Andrea Sartoretti
Andrea Sartoretti (born 19 June 1971) is an Italian former volleyball player. Biography Born at Perugia, Sartoretti debuted in the Italian Serie in 1991, winning the Award as best Under 23 player. A 1.94 cm athlete, he usually played opposite hitter. Sartoretti was known for his powerful serve, which gained him the nickname of ''Sartorace''. He won one Italian Serie A1 national title in 1997, with Pallavolo Modena. Sartoretti also won three CEV Champions Leagues and two European Supercups in his stay at Messaggero Ravenna (1991-1996). He earned his first cap for Italy national team in 1993. He won four World Leagues (two times declared MVP), two European (2001 and 2003) and a World (1998) titles. He has won two silver medals and a bronze medal in three Olympic Games between 1996 and 2004. Sartoretti ended his playing career in 2009. Vigor Bovolenta
Vigor Bovolenta (30 May 1974 – 24 March 2012) was a volleyball player from Italy. Bovolenta was part of the men's national team that won the European Championship in 1995 and the silver medal at the 1996 Summer Olympics. He died at the age of 37 only a few hours after feeling faint (allegedly suffering a heart attack) during an Italian League fourth level game between his team, Forlì, and the reserve team of Macerata. Giovane Farinazzo Gavio (born September 7, 1970 in Juiz de Fora), known as Giovane, is a retired Brazilian volleyball coach and former player, who was a member of the Brazil men's national volleyball team that won the gold medal at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, Spain by defeating The Netherlands (3-0) in the final. Playing as an outside hitter, Gavio competed in three consecutive Summer Olympics, starting in 1992. Later on he started a career in beach volleyball. Renan Dal Zotto
Renan Dal Zotto (born July 19, 1960) is a Brazilian former volleyball player who competed in three editions of the Summer Olympics and currently head coach of Brazil men's national volleyball team. He was born in São Leopoldo, Rio Grande do Sul. In 1980 he was part of the Brazilian team which finished fifth in the Volleyball at the 1980 Summer Olympics, Olympic tournament. He played five matches. Four years later he won the silver medal with the Brazilian team in the Volleyball at the 1984 Summer Olympics, 1984 Olympic tournament. He played all six matches. FIVB Volleyball Men's Club World Championship
The FIVB Volleyball Men's Club World Championship is an international men's club volleyball competition organised by the '' Fédération Internationale de Volleyball'' (FIVB), the sport's global governing body. The competition was first contested in 1989 in Italy. It was not held between 1993 and 2008, but since 2009, the competition has been held every year, and has been hosted by Qatar and Brazil except in 2017 and 2018 where both hosted by Poland. The current format of the tournament involves eight teams competing for the title at venues within the host nation over a period of about one week; the winners of that year's AVC Club Volleyball Championship (Asia), African Clubs Championship (Africa), Men's South American Volleyball Club Championship (South America) and CEV Champions League (Europe), along with the host city's team and a nominated team from North America.
