Portland Gallery
Portland Gallery is an art gallery in central London, England. Founded in 1984 by Tom Hewlett, the gallery displays modern British and Contemporary paintings. A particular specialization is the work of Scottish colourists Samuel Peploe, Francis Cadell, George Leslie Hunter, and John Duncan Fergusson, and their immediate followers, including Anne Redpath and John Maclauchlan Milne. The gallery also hosts the estate collections of Cadell, Maclauchlan Milne, and Edward Seago. Among contemporary painters and sculptors, the gallery has displayed works by Archie Forrest, Gary Bunt, Paul Rafferty, Nicholas Hely Hutchinson, Gordon Mitchell, Oliver Akers Douglas, and David Spiller. Edward Seago
Edward Brian Seago, RBA, ARWS, RWS (31 March 1910 – 19 January 1974) was an English artist who painted in both oils and watercolours. Early life The son of a coal merchant, Seago was born in Norwich and attended Norwich School. He was a self-taught artist (although he received advice from Sir Alfred Munnings and Bertram Priestman) and enjoyed a wide range of admirers from the British royal family and the Aga Khan to the common man. His works have been classified as either Impressionist or Post-Impressionist and included landscapes, seascapes, skyscapes, street scenes, his garden and portraits. When aged 14, Seago won an award from the Royal Drawing Society, and from then on knew what he wanted to do in spite of his parents' initial disapproval. At the age of 18, he joined Bevin's Travelling Show, and he subsequently toured with circuses in Britain and throughout Europe. The Ritz London is a Grade II listed 5-star hotel in Piccadilly, London, England. A symbol of high society and luxury, the hotel is one of the world's most prestigious and best known. The Ritz has become so associated with luxury and elegance that the word "ritzy" has entered the English language to denote something that is ostentatiously stylish, fancy, or fashionable. The London Art Fair (LAF) is an annual contemporary art fair held at the Business Design Centre in Islington, London. Overview The fair displays modern British and contemporary art, from the early 20th century onwards, presented by galleries and private collectors. Alongside over 125 participating galleries in the main fair, there are two curated sections focusing on younger galleries and new work with art projects and contemporary photography with Photo50. The 2019 fair was held during 16–20 January 2019. After a gap, the 34th fair was held during 20–24 April 2022, postponed from January due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Nicholas Hely Hutchinson
Nicholas Hely Hutchinson (born 1955) is a painter, based in Dorset. Initially influenced by Dufy and Matisse, he has also drawn on the English NeoRomantic tradition. He settled near Blandford, Dorset, and the countryside of that county and Wiltshire, horse racing, interiors and still life were among his subjects. A museum is distinguished by a collection of often unique objects that forms the core of its activities for exhibitions, education, research, etc. This differentiates it from an archive or library, where the contents may be more paper-based, replaceable and less exhibition oriented, or a private collection of art formed by an individual, family or institution that may grant no public access.
