Port Of Tanjung Kalian
The Port of Tanjung Kalian is a seaport located in the town of Muntok, in West Bangka Regency of the Bangka Belitung Islands, Indonesia. It serves as both a cargo port and a passenger ferry port, connecting the island of Bangka to Sumatra through the opposite Port of Tanjung Api-Api in South Sumatra. History During the 1850s, Dutch colonial authorities with interests in both tin mining in Bangka and controlling traffic through the Bangka Strait established a lighthouse at Tanjung Kalian. Tanjung Kalian was chosen as the construction site due to its location at the western extremity of Bangka, making it clearly visible and prominent to passing ships. Later, in 1862, the wood-and-steel structure was improved and heightened to by the Dutch tin mining company ''Banka Tin Winning'' based on an existing British design, becoming a permanent fixture of the port. Muntok () or, more commonly, Mentok is a town in the Indonesian province of Bangka-Belitung on the island of Sumatra. Port Of Tanjung Api-Api
The Port of Tanjung Api-Api is a seaport in Banyuasin Regency, South Sumatra, Indonesia. Completed in 2007, it began passenger ferry operations to Muntok in 2013, and cargo operations in 2019. History Historically, the city of Palembang served as the primary seaport for southern Sumatra, the Musi River being wide enough to accommodate oceangoing vessels. However, due to limited ship weights caused by sandbanks in the river, plans had been made to develop a replacement port at Tanjung Api-Api since the 1930s during the Dutch East Indies era. After the provincial government of South Sumatra also proposed the development of a port at Tanjung Api-Api in 2002, construction began in 2004 and was completed in 2007.
