Porfirije, Serbian Patriarch
Porfirije ( sr-Cyrl, Порфирије, ; born Prvoslav Perić; born 22 July 1961) is the current and List of heads of the Serbian Orthodox Church, 46th patriarch of the Serbian Orthodox Church. He was the Metropolitanate of Zagreb and Ljubljana, Metropolitan Bishop of Zagreb and Ljubljana from 2014 to 2021 and Titular Bishop of Jegra between 1999 and 2014. He is also a university professor and author of theological works. Early life and education Porfirije (Porphyry) was born as Prvoslav Perić ( sr-Cyrl, Првослав Перић) on 22 July 1961, in the town of Bečej, PR Serbia, FPR Yugoslavia (now in Serbia), to Radojka and Radivoje Perić. His family has roots in Derventa, Bosnia and Herzegovina. He finished primary school in Čurug, and the Gymnasium Jovan Jovanović Zmaj, Jovan Jovanović Zmaj Gymnasium in Novi Sad. The title His Holiness (and the associated form of address Your Holiness) is an official title or style referring to the pope in the Catholic Church; this use can be traced back several hundred years. Kovilj Monastery
The Kovilj Monastery ( sr-Cyrl-Latn, Манастир Ковиљ, Manastir Kovilj) is a 13th-century Serb Orthodox monastery in the Bačka region, in the northern Serbian province of Vojvodina. According to the legend, the monastery was founded by the first Serb archbishop, Saint Sava, in the 13th century. The monastery, often cited as one of the most beautiful, has been nicknamed the "Jewel of Bačka". Considered "one of the most monumental cultural-historical objects in Bačka", it is protected by the state since 4 August 1949 as a cultural monument. Čurug
Čurug (; ) is a village located in the municipality of Žabalj, Serbia. It is situated in the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina. The village has a Serb ethnic majority and its population numbering 8,166 inhabitants (as of 2011 census). It is the biggest village in Serbia. Derventa ( sr-cyrl, Дервента) is a city in Republika Srpska, Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is situated in the Posavina region, northwest of the city of Doboj. The Titular Bishop of Jegra ( sr-cyr, Викарни епископ јегарски) is a titular bishop of the Serbian Orthodox Church, who also serves as the vicar bishop for the Bishop of Bačka. The see of bishop is Kovilj Monastery in Kovilj near Novi Sad. The Eparchy of Bačka is an ecclesiastical territory in the Bačka region, Serbia. Created in 1999, the titular bishop bears the title of the old Eparchy of Jegra (named after the Hungarian city Eger), which was the northernmost eparchy during the time of the Serbian Patriarchate of Peć.
