Population Action International
Population Action International (PAI) is an international, civil society organization that uses research and advocacy to improve global access to family planning and reproductive health care. Its mission is to "advance universal access to sexual and reproductive health and rights through advocacy, partnerships and the funding of changemakers". PAI's headquarters is in Washington, D.C. History Population Action International was founded in 1965 as the Population Crisis Committee by William Henry Draper Jr., Lammot du Pont Copeland and Hugh Moore. William Henry Draper Jr
William Henry Draper Jr. (August 10, 1894 – December 26, 1974) was an American army officer, banker, government official, and diplomat. Early life William Henry Draper Jr., was born on August 10, 1894, in Harlem, New York City. His parents were Mary Emma (née Carey) Draper (1872–1960) and William Henry Draper (1859–1929). Draper received a Bachelor of Arts, B.A. and Master's degree, M.A. in economics at New York University. Career Draper joined the U.S. Army soon after finishing college and served during World War I as a major in the infantry. Deforestation in Madagascar is an ongoing environmental issue. Deforestation creates agricultural or pastoral land but can also result in desertification, water resource degradation, biodiversity erosion and habitat loss, and soil loss. It has been noticed that Madagascar has lost 80 or 90% of its "original" or "pre-human" forest cover, but this claim is difficult to prove and is not supported by evidence.
