Poplar Bluff, Missouri
Poplar Bluff is a medium city in Butler County in Southeast Missouri, United States. It is the county seat of Butler County and is known as "The Gateway to the Ozarks" among other names. The population was 16,225 at the 2020 census. The Poplar Bluff Micropolitan Statistical Area consists of all of Butler County. The city is at the crossroads of U.S. Route 60 and U.S. Route 67. History The French were the first Europeans to assert any territorial rights over the Poplar Bluff area. The French held the area until 1770 when it was ceded by treaty to Spain. Spain held the area until 1802 when it was returned to France. During this time the area of Poplar Bluff, as well as all of Butler County, held almost no European settlements until 1819, when the first white settler family moved into the Poplar Bluff area. Darrell Atchison
Darrell Atchison is an American politician and businessman serving as a member of the Missouri House of Representatives from the 153rd district. Elected in November 2020, he assumed office on January 6, 2021. Early life and education Atchison was born in St. Louis and moved to Williamsville, Missouri, at the age of 12. Ben Hansbrough (born December 23, 1987) is an American former professional basketball player and a former assistant coach for Western Kentucky University. He resigned from WKU on October 16, 2017. He is the younger brother of former NBA player Tyler Hansbrough. College career Hansbrough began his career at Mississippi State University and was a standout for two seasons before transferring to Notre Dame. Hansbrough, who is 6'3" and weighs averaged 12.0 points per game during his career at Notre Dame. Andrew Tyler Hansbrough (born November 3, 1985) is an American professional basketball player for Cangrejeros de Santurce of the Baloncesto Superior Nacional. He has played in the National Basketball Association (NBA) for seven seasons, as well as internationally. In college, Hansbrough was a star with the North Carolina Tar Heels from 2005 to 2009. The 2009 NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament was a single-elimination tournament in which 65 schools competed to determine the national champion of the men's NCAA Division I college basketball as a culmination of the 2008–09 basketball season. Gayle Kingery (born July 7, 1939) is an American former teacher, and former Republican member of the Missouri House of Representatives. Kameron Lee Misner (born January 8, 1998) is an American professional baseball outfielder in the Tampa Bay Rays organization. Amateur career Misner attended and graduated from Poplar Bluff High School in Poplar Bluff, Missouri. As a senior, he batted .422 with eight home runs, 35 RBIs, and 29 stolen bases. After his senior year, he was drafted by the Kansas City Royals in the 33rd round of the 2016 Major League Baseball draft.
