Pop Culture (song)
"Pop Culture" is a mash-up song created by Hugo Pierre Leclercq, better known by his stage name, Madeon. The song was recorded on-the-fly by Leclercq, when he was seventeen years old, using samples from 39 popular songs, mixed using software FL Studio controlled with a Novation Launchpad. Leclercq recorded a video of him creating the mix which he uploaded to YouTube on 11 July 2011. The video went viral within a few days, and since has seen more than 56 million views. The video drew attention to Leclercq and would lead to him being signed by Columbia Records and launching his music career. Composition At the time of recording the song, Leclercq was 16, living with his parents in Nantes, France. Leclercq (at the time, using only his Madeon stage name) was a rising star in the EDM genre, having recently won a remix competition for the song " The Island" by Pendulum in late 2010. Hugo Pierre Leclercq (; born 30 May 1994), better known by his stage name Madeon (), is a French DJ and music producer from Nantes, currently based in Los Angeles. He initially came to widespread public attention at 17 through a YouTube video, "Pop Culture", where he performed a mash-up of 39 different popular songs in real-time using a Novation Launchpad. It received millions of hits in its first few days of release. Madeon has cited The Beatles and Daft Punk as his greatest musical influences. Madeon's first EP, '' The City'', was released in 2012. is a Japanese electronica band consisting of producer Yasutaka Nakata and vocalist Toshiko Koshijima. Career Capsule formed in November 1997, after Yasutaka Nakata and Toshiko Koshijima met at the Teens' Music Festival in the Hokuriku area convention when they were both 17 years old. Their first single was "Sakura", released in March 2001 on Yamaha Music Communications. Their first album, ''High Collar Girl'', was significantly different from their later works in that it did not involve nearly as much use of synthesizers or contain futuristic/electronic sounds.
