Ponkunnam, Kottayam, Kerala
Ponkunnam (പൊൻകുന്നം) is a census town in Kerala, India, part of Kottayam district under Kanjirappally Tehsil, taluk. Ponkunnam literally means ''golden mountain'' (''ponn'' = gold, ''kunn'' = mountain). Nearby towns are Kanjirappalli, Manimala and Palai, Pala. This part of Kerala is famous for its fertile land and rubber plantations. It is at an altitude of above mean sea level. The town is at the junction of two major roads in Kerala: National Highway 183 (India), NH220 and Main Eastern Highway. The climate is moderate with timely cold breezes and the town is the gateway to the Western Ghats. The town is famous for its volleyball traditions and customs. Main Eastern Highway
The Main Eastern Highway is the lifeline of the high range townships of the Travancore region of Kerala state, India. It is also known as Punalur-Muvattupuzha Highway. Main Eastern Highway is categorized as State Highway - 08 ( SH-08 ) of Kerala. It is the second longest State Highway of Kerala covering a distance of 153.6 km. Ponkunnam Damodaran
Ponkunnam Damodaran (1915-1994) was a poet, novelist, dramatist and communist supporter who was active from 1940 to 1970. He wrote the song "Pachappanamthate...", used in the Malayalam film ''Nottam ''Nottam'' is a 2006 Malayalam film starring Ajir Shujahi, Arun, Nedumudi Venu, Jagathi Sreekumar and Samvrutha Sunil in the lead roles. Padayani
Padayani, also known Padeni (from the Malayalam word for military formations), is a traditional folk dance and a ritual art from the central portion of the Indian state of Kerala. A ceremonial dance involving masks, it is an ancient ritual performed in Bhagavati temples. The dance is performed in honor of Bhadrakaali. Meaning, a 'row of warriors', Padayani is an art form that blends all music, dance, theatre, satire, facial masks, and paintings. It is part of worship of Bhadrakali and is staged in temples dedicated to the goddess from mid-December to mid-May. Manakkattu Bhadra Temple
Manakkattu Sree Bhadra Temple is a Hindu temple located in Chirakkadavu village near Ponkunnam in Kottayam district in the Indian state of Kerala. Goddess Bhadrakali presides there in the form of "Manakkattuamma". Devi provides " Sree" (wealth/prosperity) and "Bhadratha" (security) to the devotees equally.
