Polydora (polychaete)
''Polydora'' is a genus of annelid worms. It contains marine polychaete species that live in mud, holes bored in rocks, and holes bored in the shells of shellfish. Some shell- and rock-boring polydora worms leave a characteristic double hole in the rock and shells in which they burrow. Etymology From the Ancient Greek Πολυδωρη, from Polydora, daughter of Tethys and Ocean in Greek mythology. Economic effects Polydora species are a major economic issue for parts of the shellfish industry. Some species cause "mudblister" on oysters, living inside the oyster shell and roughening its interior surface. Although this makes the oyster grow much more slowly, and makes the shell ugly and harder to sell, the meat of the oyster is still fit to eat. List of ''Polydora'' species * '' Polydora aciculata'' * '' Polydora aggregata'' * '' Polydora anoculata'' * '' Polydora armata'' Langerhans, 1880 * '' Polydora barbilla'' * '' Polydora bioccipitalis'' * '' Polydora blakei'' * ...

Louis-Augustin Bosc D'Antic
Louis Augustin Guillaume Bosc (or Louis-Augustin Bosc d'Antic) (29 January 1759 – 10 July 1828) was a French botanist, invertebrate zoologist, and entomologist. Biography Bosc was born in Paris, the son of Paul Bosc d’Antic, a medical doctor and chemist. He studied at Dijon, where he was the pupil of botanist Jean-François Durande and chemist Louis-Bernard Guyton-Morveau. Being unable to become an artilleryman, he worked initially for the office of the Controller-General of Finances, controller general and then for the comptroller of the postal service. In time he took courses in botany under Antoine-Laurent de Jussieu and met botanist René Louiche Desfontaines, René Desfontaines and naturalist Pierre Marie Auguste Broussonet. He also took up with Jean-Marie Roland, vicomte de la Platière, Jean Marie Roland and Madame Roland and formed a lasting relationship with Danish entomologist Johan Christian Fabricius. Polydora Glycymerica
''Polydora glycymerica'' is a species of annelid worm in the family Spionidae, native to the northwestern Pacific Ocean, where it lives commensally in association with a bivalve mollusc, usually '' Glycymeris yessoensis'' but occasionally with another species of clam. The worm intercepts food particles being drawn into the mollusc by its feeding current. Taxonomy This species was first described in 1993 by the Russian marine biologist Vasily I. Radashevsky, who placed it in the genus '' Polydora'' and gave it the specific epithet "''glycymerica''" because of its commensal relationship with the bivalve ''Glycymeris yessoensis''. The new species resembled ''Polydora vulgaris'', a worm from the South China Sea that is also associated with bivalve molluscs, although in this instance, '' Pinctada margaritifera'' and ''Hyotissa hyotis'' are the hosts. Researchers used starch gel electrophoresis to compare the number of isozyme loci and the allozymic variation present in both sp ...
