The men's discus throw competition at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, was held at the Estádio Olímpico João Havelange on 12–13 August. Thirty-five athletes from 24 nations competed. Germany's Christoph Harting succeeded his brother Robert Harting to the Olympic title. "It was the first time in Olympic history, in any sport, that brothers succeeded each other as Olympic champions in the same individual event." It was also the nation's third victory in the event (excluding those won by East and West Germany). Poland's Piotr Małachowski took the silver medal ahead of another German, Daniel Jasinski. Beata Mikołajczyk (Polish pronunciation: ; born 15 October 1985) is a Polish sprint canoer. She competed at the 2008, 2012 and 2016 Olympics, in two events for each games; she won one silver and two bronze medals and placed fourth two times. Career Mikołajczyk took up canoeing in 1996 in her native Bydgoszcz. She won the silver medal in K-2 500 m event at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing with Aneta Pastuszka-Konieczna. She won the bronze medal in K-2 500 m event at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London with Karolina Naja. She also won a gold in the K-2 1000 m event at the 2009 ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships in Dartmouth. Joanna Leszczyńska (; born 18 December 1988 in Warsaw) is a Polish rower. At the 2012 Summer Olympics, she competed in the women's quadruple sculls. She won bronze medal in quadruple sculls at the 2016 Summer Olympics, with Maria Springwald, Agnieszka Kobus and Monika Ciaciuch. That was also the team that won silver at the 2016 European Championships and bronze at the 2015 European Championships on home water in Poznan. Rafał Majka (Polish pronunciation: ; born 12 September 1989) is a Polish professional road bicycle racer, who currently rides for UCI WorldTeam . He is known as a strong climber, and rose to prominence at the 2013 Giro d'Italia, where he finished 7th overall, and 6th one year later. Other major achievements are three mountainous stage wins in the Tour de France as well as the Mountains classification in the 2014 and 2016 edition, two stages and the overall victory at the 2014 Tour de Pologne. The cycling competitions of the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro were held at four venues scheduled to host Eighteen events between 6 August and 21 August.
