Pogo Pops
Pogo Pops (established in 1987 under the name of The Doomsville Boys) is a pop rock band from Bergen, Norway. The band split up in 1996 after four albums, but reformed in 2006. Biography The Doomsville Boys were a trio and released an EP in 1989 containing six songs. The band changed its name to Pogo Pops in 1990 after Domenic O'Fahey joined. Pogo Pops is often considered the band that defined the Bergen Wave, followed by artists like Kings of Convenience and Röyksopp. Led by Frank Hammersland, the band released four albums in the 1990s, all of them dominated by Hammersland's melodious pop rock. The band was well received by the critics, but only attained moderate commercial success, and Hammersland dissolved the band in 1996. Hammersland released a solo album which was also very well received by critics but didn't sell very well, before he started the band Popium with several musician friends from Bergen. Bergen
Bergen (), historically Bjørgvin, is a city and municipality in Vestland county on the west coast of Norway. , its population is roughly 285,900. Bergen is the second-largest city in Norway. Spellemannprisen, often referred to as the Norwegian Grammy Awards in English, is a Norwegian music award presented to Norwegian musicians. The award was established by the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI), an organization that represents the interests of the recording industry worldwide. First awarded in 1973, the prize honours musicians from the previous year; it is still awarded annually, usually in January or February. The Spellemann committee, composed of members of IFPI Norway and FONO, manages the award and acts as the judge. 21 categories are currently awarded, in addition to other honorary and industry awards the committee may give. Tre Små Kinesere are a pop group based in Trondheim, Norway which, since their beginning in the 1990s, have defined their own acoustic style. They recorded nine albums between then and 2004 to come back in 2010. The band was composed of Ulf Risnes (vocals and guitar), Øystein Hegge (vocals and keyboard), and Baard Slagsvold (vocals and bass). History Tre Små Kinesere was established in 1988, when the band recorded a track for the compilation album '' Den akustiske gitarliga''. Bel Canto (band)
Bel Canto is a Norwegian music duo, originally a trio, fronted by vocalist Anneli Drecker, and signed originally to Crammed Discs. Biography Bel Canto was formed in 1985 in Tromsø by Geir Jenssen (synthesizer, programming), Nils Johansen (synthesizer, violin, bass guitar, guitar) and vocalist Anneli Drecker. The group was one of the first Norwegian bands to sign a record contract abroad. The trio moved to Brussels in 1986 and had their debut album '' White-Out Conditions'' released by Crammed Discs the following year.
