Plöckenstein
The Plöckenstein ( cz, Plechý) is a mountain, high, in the Bohemian Forest on the Austro-Czech border. Its summit is the highest point in the Bohemian Forest in both countries, and also the highest point in the regions of Mühlviertel and South Bohemia. It is well known as a result of stories by Adalbert Stifter. Location The Plöckenstein lies between the Austrian village of Schwarzenberg to the south and the Czech village of Nová Pec to the NE. Northeast of, and below the summit on Czech soil, is the lake of Plöckensteiner See, the southernmost of eight glacial lakes in the Bohemian Forest; the northern mountainside is the core zone of the Bohemian Forest National Park (Šumava National Park). Nová Pec
Nová Pec (german: Neuofen) is a municipality and village in Prachatice District in the South Bohemian Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 400 inhabitants. Administrative parts Villages of Bělá, Dlouhý Bor, Jelení, Láz, Nové Chalupy and Pěkná are administrative parts of Nová Pec. Pěkná forms an exclave of the municipal territory. Geography Nová Pec is located about south of Prachatice and southwest of České Budějovice. It is situated on the tripoint of the Czech Republic, Germany and Austria. Schwarzenberg Am Böhmerwald
Schwarzenberg am Böhmerwald is a municipality in the district of Rohrbach in the Austrian state of Upper Austria. Geography Schwarzenberg am Böhmerwald lies in the upper (northwestern) Mühlviertel region, near the tripoint with the German state of Bavaria and the South Bohemian Region of the Czech Republic. The municipal area stretches along the southern slopes of the Bohemian Forest (''Böhmerwald'') range; about 71 percent of the municipality is forest, and 26 percent is farmland. History First mentioned in 1571, the ''Schwarznperg'' estates were held by the Bavarian Prince-Bishops of Passau since medieval times. Bohemian Forest
The Bohemian Forest, known in Czech as Šumava () and in German as Böhmerwald, is a low mountain range in Central Europe. Geographically, the mountains extend from Plzeň Region and South Bohemia in the Czech Republic to Austria and Bavaria in Germany, and form the highest truncated uplands of the Bohemian Massif, up to 50 km wide. They create a natural border between the Czech Republic on one side and Germany and Austria on the other. Lipno Reservoir
The Lipno Reservoir ( cs, přehrada Lipno) is a dam and hydroelectric plant constructed along the Vltava River in the Czech Republic. It is the largest water area in the Czech Republic. History Due to frequent flooding and subsequent damage, the Vltava River in Southern Bohemia was problematic for Český Krumlov and other settlements situated on it. To harness the power of the river, and to prevent continued catastrophe, it was decided that a hydroelectric plant would be built high on the Vltava. Preparatory work at the municipality of Lipno nad Vltavou began in 1951. Construction on the dam began in 1952, and the dam was completed in 1960. Geography The stream bed of the Vltava near Lipno was chosen because it has a slight incline, facilitating the construction of a reservoir there. Tripoint
A tripoint, trijunction, triple point, or tri-border area is a geographical point at which the boundaries of three countries or subnational entities meet. There are 175 international tripoints as of 2020. Nearly half are situated in rivers, lakes or seas. On dry land, the exact tripoints may be indicated by markers or pillars, and occasionally by larger monuments. Usually, the more neighbours a country has, the more international tripoints that country has. China with 16 international tripoints and Russia with 11 to 14 lead the list of states by number of international tripoints. Saddle (landform)
The saddle between two hills or mountains is the region surrounding the saddle point, the lowest point on the line tracing the drainage divide (the col) connecting the peaks. When, and if, the saddle is navigable, even if only on foot, the saddle of a (optimal) pass between the two massifs, is the area generally found around the lowest route on which one could pass between the two summits, which includes that point which is a mathematically when graphed a relative high along one axis, and a relative low in the perpendicular axis, simultaneously; that point being by definition the col of the saddle.
