Ploiești Tramway
Ploiești Tramway is a light rail tram system serving Ploiești, Romania. It began operation in 1987, the first tram system in Ploiesti. It is owned by TCE Ploiești. The system is 100% modernised. History The tram in Ploiești was built in 1987 (some sources cite start of construction in 1986) as part of the tram systems that opened in 1980s Romania, and it had at its opening 6 routes. The tram was built in a hurry due to Elena Ceaușescu's visit to the town, explaining the bad quality of the tram tracks and the "destruction" of the asphalt next to the tram tracks, according to the town's last communist mayor, Alexandru Apostol. The late 1990s marked an end to most of these tram lines, starting with the removal of tram line 105 in 1998, by 2003 only lines 101 and 102 were existing. Ploiești
Ploiești ( , , ), formerly spelled Ploești, is a city and county seat in Prahova County, Romania. Part of the historical region of Muntenia, it is located north of Bucharest. The area of Ploiești is around , and it borders the Blejoi commune in the north, Bărcănești and Brazi communes in the south, Târgșoru Vechi commune in the west, and Bucov and Berceni communes in the east. According to the 2011 Romanian census, there were 201,226 people living within the city limits, making it the ninth most populous in the country. Elena Ceaușescu
Elena Ceaușescu (; ; 7 January 1916 – 25 December 1989) was a Romanian communist politician who was the wife of Nicolae Ceaușescu, General Secretary of the Romanian Communist Party and leader of the Socialist Republic of Romania. Timiș 2 were a series of tram vehicles built in Timișoara, Romania, initially by the Timișoara Transport Company, and later by ''Electrometal Timișoara'' (also known as ''Eltim''). Trams The tramcars appeared in the late 1960s as part of the desire of the Timisoara Transport Executive (Intreprinderea de Transport Timisoara) to locally produce and buy trams. Previously the transport company acquired Electroputere Craiova's V54 type trams in 1955 and Bucharest Transport Executive (Intreprinderea de Transport Bucuresti) Main Workshops' V56 and V58. Bucharest Articulated Tramcar
The Bucharest Articulated Tramcar series is a series of tram vehicles produced between 1971 and 1992 by URAC, the main workshops of the Bucharest Transit Company (Întreprinderea de Transport București (ITB)). Various modernized variants have also been delivered since 1993. For the last 50 years they have been the backbone of the tram network in Bucharest, replacing motor-trailer formations that had run in the city since the introduction of electric trams.
