Plenty River (Victoria)
The Plenty River is a perennial river of the Port Phillip catchment, located in the north-eastern Greater Melbourne region of the Australian state of Victoria. Course and features The Plenty River rises in the forested slopes of Mount Disappointment, northwest of . The river flows generally south, joined by three minor tributaries, before reaching its confluence with the Yarra River southeast of . The river descends over its course. The river is impounded by the Toorourrong Reservoir and is the source of Melbourne's first major water supply reservoir, the Yan Yean Reservoir, completed in 1857. Along the lower reaches of the river, both the Plenty River Trail and the Rosanna Golf Club can be located. A perennial stream is a stream that has continuous flow of surface water throughout the year in at least parts of its catchment during seasons of normal rainfall, Water Supply Paper 494. as opposed to intermittent river, one whose flow is intermittent. In the absence of irregular, prolonged or extreme drought, a perennial stream is a watercourse, or segment, element or emerging body of water which continually delivers groundwater. For example, an damming, artificial disruption of stream, variability in flow or stream selection associated with the activity in hydropower installations, do not affect this status. Perennial streams do not include stagnant water (stream pool, pools and puddle, waterholes), reservoirs, oxbow lake, cutoff lakes and ponds that persist throughout the year. Plenty, Victoria
Plenty is a suburb in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, north-east of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the Shire of Nillumbik local government area. Plenty recorded a population of 2,575 at the 2021 census. Plenty is located within Greater Melbourne, beyond the Melbourne metropolitan area Urban Growth Boundary. It is a semi-rural area consisting mostly of large lots, with many being several acres in size. However, increasing urbanisation is evident near the border with the suburb of Greensborough. New housing estates are being established with the population in the area set to increase, however large areas of Plenty are still relatively untouched with development limited due to being in the green wedge. Plenty River Trail
__NOTOC__ The Plenty River Trail is a shared use path for cyclists and pedestrians, which follows the Plenty River through the suburbs of Greensborough and Lower Plenty in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. The last major gap in the trail was eliminated by the completion of a footbridge across the river, south of the Heidelberg Golf Club, in March 2007. The trail now runs all the way from the Yarra River to the Greensborough Bypass and points further north. The trail is badly signed but provides a pleasant environment. Following the path Although there is a sign near the most northerly bend of Punkerri Circuit which declares this as the end of the Trail, the actual track starts further north off an easement, at the most northerly bend of Plenty River Drive, 120 m from Acworth Court. Yan Yean Reservoir
Yan Yean Reservoir is the oldest water supply for the city of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. At the time of its completion in 1857 it was the largest artificial reservoir in the world. It is north of the city within the eponymous locality of Yan Yean, and is built on the Plenty River, a tributary of the Yarra River. An embankment high holds back of water. Toorourrong Reservoir
Toorourrong Reservoir is a small water supply reservoir located on the southern slopes of the Great Dividing Range approximately north of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. The reservoir is formed by the Toorourrong Dam across the Plenty River, and an interbasin transfer. The dam is operated by Melbourne Water and the reservoir forms part of the Melbourne water supply system. Water from the Toorourrong Reservoir flows by aqueduct to the Yan Yean Reservoir. Description The reservoir is formed by an earthen embankment dam across the eastern branch of the Plenty River below the junction with Jacks Creek.
