Pleasant Ridge is a city in Oakland County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 2,526 at the 2010 census. Located along the Woodward Corridor and Interstate 696, Pleasant Ridge is a northern suburb of Metro Detroit and is about north of the city of Detroit. With a land area of , Pleasant Ridge is the fifth-smallest city by land area in the state of Michigan after the cities of Sylvan Lake, Keego Harbor, Petersburg, and Clarkston. Ferndale is a city in Oakland County in the U.S. state of Michigan. It forms part of the Detroit metropolitan area. As of the 2020 census, the city population was 19,190. Hedge's Wigwam was a Native American-themed restaurant in Pleasant Ridge, Michigan, operating from 1927 until 1967. It was located at 24362 Woodward Avenue, one block from the original Saginaw Trail. History Roy Hedge opened an orange juice stand at Ten Mile and Main Street in 1920. After a visit to Mackinaw City where he saw a Native American-themed restaurant, Hedge decided to create a similar-styled restaurant, and Hedge's Wigwam opened in 1927. M-1, commonly known as Woodward Avenue, is a north–south state trunkline highway in the Metro Detroit area of the US state of Michigan. The highway, called "Detroit's Main Street", runs from Detroit north-northwesterly to Pontiac. Keego Harbor, Michigan
Keego Harbor is a city in Oakland County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 2,970 at the 2010 census. With a land area of , Keego Harbor is the third-smallest city by land area in the state of Michigan after the cities of Petersburg and Clarkston. History The first non-native settlers to the area arrived between 1825 and 1830. Cass Lake drew many wealthy residents to purchase land along the lake for vacationing. In 1890, a railway line was built through Keego Harbor to connect to Detroit and Pontiac, making the area much more accessible. At the turn of the century, a prominent Pontiac lawyer, Joseph E. Sawyer, purchased and platted land just to the southwest along Orchard Lake. Interstate 696 (I-696) is an east–west auxiliary Interstate Highway in the Metro Detroit region of the US state of Michigan. The state trunkline highway is also known as the Walter P. Reuther Freeway, named for the prominent auto industry union head by the Michigan Legislature in 1971. I-696 is a bypass route, detouring around the city of Detroit through the city's northern suburbs in Oakland and Macomb counties.
