Pleasant Hill High School (Missouri)
Pleasant Hill High School is a public high school located in Pleasant Hill, Missouri, United States. PHHS serves students in grades 9 through 12 and is the only high school in the Pleasant Hill R-III School District. History Pleasant Hill High School was established in 1923. Voters passed a $90,000 bond in spring to authorize the building of a 300-student high school, which was completed that fall. Athletics Rooster and Chick athletic teams compete in the Missouri River Valley Conference. Performing arts PHHS has four competitive show choirs: the mixed-gender "Hillside Singers" and "Hillsound", the all-female "Hilltop Harmony" and the all-male "Powerhouse". Hillside Singers' 2020 season included four grand championships. The program also hosts an annual competition, the Battle of the Best. Pleasant Hill is a city in Cass and Jackson counties, Missouri, United States. The population was 8,113 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Kansas City metropolitan area. Pleasant Hill is home for the National Weather Service Kansas City/Pleasant Hill, Missouri office, which serves 37 counties in northern and western Missouri and seven counties in extreme east-central Kansas. History Pleasant Hill was platted in 1844 by William Wright and was recorded as the "Original Town of Pleasant Hill." Wright and Methodist circuit rider William Ferrell operated a mercantile store. The original location was on a ridge near Pleasant Hill Cemetery. The community was named after its "pleasant situation on an elevated prairie". Stephen Earl Shifflett (born January 5, 1966) is a former Major League Baseball pitcher who played for one season. He pitched in 34 games for the Kansas City Royals during the 1992 season. Shifflett attended but did not play baseball at Pleasant Hill High School in Missouri, instead playing American Legion Baseball. He began his college baseball career at Longview Community College before transferring as a third baseman to Central Missouri. He converted to pitching at Central Missouri but, after one year, could not afford to attend the school and transferred back to Longview.
