''Playgoers Pictures'' was an American film production and distribution company active between 1921 and 1923 during the silent era. Unlike many other independent companies it concentrated on a variety of genres rather than just westerns.Langman p.XXVI The 1921 film ''Tropical Love'' was one of the first to be shot in Puerto Rico. It also released several British films including ''The Pauper Millionaire''. Norma Shearer starred in the 1923 film ''A Clouded Name'' while other actors appearing in the company's films include Dolores Cassinelli, Marjorie Daw, Fred Niblo, Lillian Lorraine, Wyndham Standing, Noah Beery, Dorothy Mackaill and Reginald Denny. Early years Standing was born in London, England and died in Los Angeles, California. He was the son of veteran actor Herbert Standing and the brother of actors Sir Guy Standing, Jack Standing, Herbert Standing Jr. and Percy Standing. He was also the uncle of Joan Standing and Kay Hammond,. and actor Charles Wyndham was his uncle. Career Standing, a popular leading man in the silent film era, appeared in more than 130 films between 1915 and 1948. ''Anne of Little Smoky'' is a 1921 American silent romantic drama film directed by Edward Connor and starring Winifred Westover, Dolores Cassinelli, Joe King, Frank Hagney, and Ralph Faulkner. The film was released by Playgoers Pictures on November 20, 1921. Plot Set in the Kentucky mountains. The Brockton family consider Little Smoky to be their mountain, but the government declares it to be a forest and game preserve. Forest ranger Bob Hayne is in love with Anne Brockton, but when he catches her father, Ed, poaching game he tries to arrest him. The two men fight, and Brockton is believed to have died. When bloodhounds are set on Bob’s trail Anne dresses in some of his clothing in an attempt to confuse the hounds following his scent. Anne finds her father alive in the forest ranger’s cabin. ''Across the Divide'' is a 1921 American silent Western film directed by John Holloway and starring Rex Ballard, Rosemary Theby and Ralph McCullough. Plot Left by his dying mother in the care of Buck (Rex Ballard), Wallace Layson (Ralph McCullough) has no knowledge of his real identity. Wallace is to inherit a ranch on his 21st birthday. His father returns and induces Rosa (Rosemary Theby), a dancehall girl, to marry Wallace in a plot to cheat him out of his inheritance. But Wallace is in love with Helen (Dorothy Manners).
