''Play Dead'' is the fifth album from New Orleans group Mutemath. The album was released on September 8, 2017. It is the last studio album featuring Darren King who departed the band on August 8, 2017 and Roy Mitchell-Cárdenas who left on May 3, 2017. and the final album to feature MuteMath as a band before transitioning into a solo project in 2018. Play Dead debuted at No. 112 on the ''Billboard'' 200 albums chart on its first week of release, selling around 13,000 copies in the United States in its first week. Mutemath
Mutemath (sometimes styled as MuteMath or MUTEMATH) is an American alternative rock project founded by American singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and record producer Paul Meany. Originally co-founded as a band with Darren King in 2002, Meany decided to continue Mutemath as a solo project following King's departure in 2017. Mutemath draws heavily from influences in 1960s and 1970s soul, psychedelic rock, and jam band styles, utilizing vintage guitars and amplifiers as well as Rhodes keyboards, synthesizers, and other electronic instruments such as the keytar. History Formation Mutemath started in 2002 as a long-distance collaboration between Paul Meany in New Orleans, Louisiana and Darren King in Springfield, Missouri. ''Vitals'' is the fourth full-length release from New Orleans group Mutemath. The album was released on November 13, 2015. It is the group's first release on their own imprint label Wojtek Records, following their departure from Warner Bros. Records and the dissolution of Teleprompt Records. It is also the first studio album featuring Todd Gummerman since he joined the group in 2011. Darren King
Darren Charles King (born June 25, 1982) is an American drummer and percussionist, best known for his association with the band Mutemath until his permanent departure in August 2017. He played the drums for the New Orleans-based Christian rock band Earthsuit for a short time. In concert he is often seen wearing a pair of headphones gaffer-taped to his head for foldback, something previously done by The Who drummer, Keith Moon. King grew up in the small town of Marshfield, Missouri. On October 27, 2010 Switchfoot's Song "Yet" was released for free download as a remix by Darren King. He also remixed Hillsong United's "Love is War" which was released on their White Album (the remix project) in 2014. Roy Mitchell-Cárdenas
Roy Mitchell-Cárdenas (born July 25, 1977 in Houston, Texas) is an American musician, writer, and multi-instrumentalist. He was the bassist (and sometimes guitarist) for the rock band Mutemath, as well as the bassist for Earthsuit. Mitchell-Cárdenas has been playing in bands since he was twelve years old and has worked as a session musician and producer for many groups. In addition to bass guitar, he plays upright bass, guitar, drums and keyboards. ''CCM Magazine'' is a twice-monthly online magazine focusing on contemporary Christian music, published by Salem Publishing, a division of Salem Communications. Colony House (band)
Colony House is an American indie rock band from Franklin, Tennessee. Their debut album, ''When I Was Younger'', reached No. 154 on the ''Billboard'' 200 and No. 3 on the Heatseekers Albums chart. Background Natives of Franklin, Tennessee, the band is composed of brothers Caleb Chapman (born October 2, 1989) (vocals) and Will Chapman (born February 6, 1991) (drums), guitarist Scott Mills, and bassist Parke Cottrell. Caleb and Will are the sons of contemporary Christian musician, Steven Curtis Chapman. The band began working together while in high school in 2009. They have described their sound as "rock n' roll" with "stripped-down instruments", influenced by U2 and Cold War Kids. Paul Meany
Paul Meany (born July 2, 1976) is an American singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, music director and record producer. He is best known as the lead singer and keyboardist for the alternative rock band Mutemath. Career While under the moniker "Math" (the precursor to Mutemath), Paul Meany remixed the song "J Train" from TobyMac's debut studio album Momentum. The remix appeared as the first track on the album Re:Mix Momentum by TobyMac, and included vocals from Meany. Meany has continued to work on many various projects outside of Mutemath, producing tracks for Forenn and KiND, as well as the debut EP of bandmate Jonathan Allen. Meany was the featured vocalist on Steve Angello single "Breaking Kind" released on August 4, 2017 as well as Seven Lions and Jason Ross' single "Higher Love" released on January 13, 2017.
