Platino Award For Best Documentary
The Platino Award for Best Documentary (Spanish: ''Premio Platino al mejor película documental'') is one of the Platino Awards, Ibero-America's film awards, presented by the Entidad de Gestión de Derechos de los Productores Audiovisuales (EGEDA) and the Federación Iberoamericana de Productores Cinematográficos y Audiovisuales (FIPCA). It was first presented in 2014, with the Spanish documentary ''Con la pata quebrada'' being the first recipient of the award. Spain holds the record of most wins in the category with six as well as most nominations with twenty-two, with at least one nominated Spanish film each edition. 2021 winner ''The Mole Agent'' also received a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature. The Platino Awards, known in Spanish as Premios Platino del Cine Iberoamericano ("Platinum Prizes of Ibero-American Cinema"), are Ibero-America's annual film awards. The awards were established in 2013, and the first awards ceremony took place on 5 April 2014 at the Teatro Anayasi, Panama City. The ceremony continues to take place annually between April and July, and awards are given to films produced during the previous year. The award itself is a platinum figure with the shape of a woman offering the world with Latin America's map on the center, it was created by designer Javier Mariscal. ''The Pearl Button'' ( es, El botón de nácar) is a 2015 Chilean documentary film directed by Patricio Guzmán. It was screened in the main competition section of the 65th Berlin International Film Festival where it won the Silver Bear for Best Script. It won the Lumières Award for Best Documentary at the 21st Lumières Awards. The filmmaker has described the work as part of a triptych with ''Nostalgia for the Light'' and potentially a third film focusing on the Andes. It explores familiar Guzmán themes such as memory and the historical past, particularly that of history's losers rather than victors, recording some of the last surviving members of the original Alacalufe and Yaghan tribes. ''Dancing Beethoven'' is a 2017 documentary film by the Spanish director Arantxa Aguirre. It is about the work of the choreographer Maurice Béjart, founder of the Ballet of the 20th Century and other dance companies. It was released on 13 April 2017 in Germany and on 28 April 2017 in Spain. Shooting took place in Lausanne and Tokyo over nine months. It tells the story of a revival of choreography created by Béjart in the 1960s for Beethoven's Ninth Symphony (Beethoven), Ninth Symphony. The performance is given in Tokyo and the dancers are from the Béjart Ballet Lausanne and Tokyo Ballet, accompanied by the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Zubin Mehta.
