Cooking bananas are banana cultivars in the genus ''Musa'' whose fruits are generally used in cooking. They may be eaten ripe or unripe and are generally starchy. Many cooking bananas are referred to as plantains (/ˈplæntɪn/, /plænˈteɪn/, /ˈplɑːntɪn/) or green bananas. In botanical usage, the term "plantain" is used only for true plantains, while other starchy cultivars used for cooking are called "cooking bananas". True plantains are cultivars belonging to the AAB group, while cooking bananas are any cultivars belonging to List of banana cultivars, AAB, AAA, ABB, or BBB groups. The currently accepted scientific name for all such cultivars in these groups is Musa × paradisiaca, ''Musa'' × ''paradisiaca''. Platanos, Achaea
Platanos ( el, Πλάτανος) is a village and a community in the municipal unit of Akrata, Achaea, Greece. In 2011 Platanos had a population of 231 for the village, and 259 for the community, which includes the mountain villages Ano Potamia, Korinthiako Balkoni and Tsivlos. The village Platanos consists of two parts: the seaside settlement Paralia Platanou (or Paralia Platanos) on the Gulf of Corinth and Platanos proper at about 250 m elevation on a mountain slope directly above Paralia Platanou. The villages Ano Potamia and Tsivlos are about 10 km south of Platanos. Platanos is 5 km west of Akrata and 18 km southeast of Aigio. The Greek National Road 8A (Athens - Corinth - Patras) and the railway Corinth - Patras pass north of Platanos. Platanos (Greek: Πλάτανος meaning plane tree) is a village and a former municipality in Aetolia-Acarnania, West Greece, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Nafpaktia, of which it is a municipal unit. The municipal unit has an area of 169.678 km2. Population 1,611 (2011). The population of the village was 207 in 2011 and the population of the municipal district, which includes the village Kato Platanos, was 253. In Greek mythology, Platanus ( grc, Πλάτανος, Platanos, plane tree) is the daughter of the Thessalian king Aloeus and the sister of the Aloadae giants, who attacked the gods. Platanus was said to be as big as her brothers. Her brief tale survives in the chronicles of a Byzantine scholar of the twelfth century, Nicephorus Basilacius. Family Platanus was the daughter of Aloeus, the stepfather of the Aloadae, presumably by his wife Iphimedeia, the Aloadae's mother. She also had a sister named Elate. Mythology Platanus was a very beautiful girl, and as great in stature as her enormous brothers and sister. When Zeus with a lightning bolt slew the Aloadae for trying to wage war against the very heavens, Platanus was so sorrowful her shape change to that of a tree bearing her name, the plane tree, keeping the great size and beauty she had in her previous life.
