Plastic City
Plastic City is a German record label located in Mannheim, founded in 1993. It has issued releases from various artists and DJs in tech house, including The Timewriter and Terry Lee Brown Junior, Marshall Jefferson, AWeX (Tom Wax), Steve Poindexter, Kriss Dior aka Bassface Sascha, David Alvarado, Andry Nalin (Nalin & Kane), Alexi Delano and G-Pal. Until 2003 the label was owned by UCMG. For a short time Holophon adopted the label, and since 2004 Plastic City has belonged to Daredo. Between 1995 and 2002 Plastic City was also located in London (Plastic City UK) and New York City (Plastic City America) with several individual single releases and its own repertoire (tribe) of artists. As a consequence of the September 11th terror attacks in 2001 and the fact that the New York location was in the neighbourhood of Ground Zero, label activities were stopped. Tech house is a subgenre of house music that combines stylistic features of techno with house. The Timewriter
Jean Frank Cochois, also known as The Timewriter, is a German house record producer. His trademark style can be characterised by its dense and atmospheric sound. UK ''Muzik'' magazine wrote: "This is real 21st century soul music, overflowing with magic". Under various pseudonyms he has been releasing 12" and artist albums on labels as Plastic City, Mole Listening Pearls, Elektrolux and American labels such as Wave Music, Driftwood, and Fiji. He amalgamates the deep soul of Motown with synthetic sound productions. While still at boarding school, he eagerly explored the field of composition and became familiar with diverse musical styles. Marshall Jefferson
Marshall Julius Jefferson (born September 19, 1959) is an American musician, working in the house music subgenres of Chicago house and deep house. Biography Sometimes known as the father of house music, Jefferson was originally a record producer in the Universal Recording Studios in Chicago, where he met the owner of Trax Records, Larry Sherman. Jefferson's 1986 single for Trax, " Move Your Body", the first house song to use piano, was a popular and influential song in the genre. During the late-1980s heyday of house music, he recorded solo and collaborative material under various names such as Virgo, Jungle Wonz, Truth, and On the House. Steve Poindexter
Steve Poindexter (born 1965) is an American house producer and DJ. He is best known for his 1989 track "Work That Mutha Fucker", which is considered to be one of the first Chicago ghetto house tracks. Early life Poindexter was born in 1965. His father was a jazz drummer and his mother was a backup singer for Mahalia Jackson. In 1975, at the age of ten, Poindexter started DJing for Saturday night parties held at Mendel High School on the South Side of Chicago.
