The Metropolitan City of Turin ( it, Città metropolitana di Torino, Piedmontese: ''Sità metropolitan-a 'd Turin'') is a metropolitan city in the Piedmont region, Italy. Frossasco
Frossasco is a ''commune'' (municipality) in the Metropolitan City of Turin in the Italian region Piedmont, located about 30 km south west of Turin. History Even if the Celts were the inhabit the area of Frossasco. After the fall of the Western Roman Empire the Lombards settled here, as can be seen by the archaeological excavation that in the Bivio area brought back to light by the old necropolis. The layout of the town centre has an apparently typical Roman layout, but is of medieval origins. Frossasco later was owned by the abbey of Novalesa, which donated it in 1064 to the Santa Maria Cloister of Pinerolo owned by the Marchioness Adelaide of Susa. The hamlet was given in 1561 to the Count Provana of Leyni and, later on, from 1536 to 1539, was occupied by the French. Battle Of Marsaglia
The Battle of Marsaglia was a battle in the Nine Years' War, fought in Italy on 4 October 1693, between the French army of Marshal Nicolas Catinat and the army of the Grand Alliance under Duke Victor Amadeus II of Savoy. Catinat, advancing from Fenestrelle and Susa to the relief Pinerolo, defended by the count of Tessé and which the duke of Savoy was besieging, took up a position in formal order of battle north of the village of Marsaglia, near Orbassano. Here, on 4 October, the duke of Savoy attacked him with his whole army, front to front, but the greatly superior regimental efficiency of the French, and Catinat's minute attention to detail in arraying them, gave the new marshal a victory that was a worthy pendant to Neerwinden. The Piedmontese and their allies lost c. 12,000 killed, wounded and prisoners, as against Catinat's 1,800.
